The Houston Rockets invade the Smoothie King Center to do battle with the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night.
The Houston Rockets struggled early on in the season, but they’re finally starting to heat up as they will be gunning for a season-high fifth straight win after outlasting the Trailblazers in a 104-101 home win on Thursday. Victor Oladipo led the team with 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Christian Wood added 22 points with 12 rebounds while John Wall chipped in with 20 points and six assists. As a team, the Rockets shot just 42 percent from the field and 13 of 47 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from an early 20-point deficit to lead by as many as 13 points, before escaping with the narrow win as the Trailblazers failed to force overtime in the final seconds.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have struggled so far this season as they’ve lost 10 of their first 17 games, but they will be aiming for a season-high third straight win after last night’s 131-126 upset win over the Bucks. Brandon Ingram led the team with 28 points and four assists, Lonzo Ball added 27 points with eight assists, Eric Bledsoe scored 25 points while Zion Williamson chipped in with 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot 46 percent from the field and a sizzling 21 of 48 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Bucks from the start to lead by 25 points at halftime, before escaping with the narrow win as the Bucks poured in 81 points in the second half.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 8-23 ATS in their last 31 games playing on one days rest and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record. The Pelicans are 5-1 ATS in their last six games playing on zero days rest, 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 20-6-1 in the last 27 meetings in New Orleans and the Rockets are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in New Orleans.
The Rockets are starting to find a groove with their new lineup and they will take plenty of confidence from their win over the Trailblazers on Thursday, while the Pelicans were struggling mightily before their last two wins and they are 5-1 ATS in their last six games playing on zero days’ rest. I’m tempted to take the Pelicans to with the short line, but the Rockets represent decent value as underdogs in this one. This should be a close one, but I’m leaning towards the Rockets to pull off the minor upset for their fifth straight win.
