The Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks duke it out at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their last five games and they will be looking to stay hot after blowing out the Pistons in a 122-107 home win on Wednesday. Collin Sexton led the team with 29 points on 10 of 14 shooting, Andre Drummond added 23 points with 16 rebounds and five steals, Taurean Prince scored 16 points with five assists off the bench while Darius Garland chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 54 percent from the field and 11 of 21 from the 3-point line as they trailed by two points at halftime, before they exploded for 68 points in the second half to make it look easy in the end.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games and they will be hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat after getting routed by the Jazz in a 108-94 road loss on Tuesday. Austin Rivers led the team with 25 points on 10 of 14 shooting, Julius Randle added 18 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while RJ Barrett chipped in with 17 points but no other player scored in double figures. As a team, the Knicks shot just 43 percent from the field and 10 of 27 from the 3-point line as they showed plenty of energy to take a 14-point lead going into halftime, but that didn’t last long at all as the Jazz turned the screws in the second half and held the Knicks to just 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Cavaliers are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 7-0 ATS in their last seven Friday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Knicks are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games playing on two days rest.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in New York, the Cavaliers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in New York.
The Cavaliers were struggling for a while there, but they look like a much better team with Garland and Sexton back together in the starting lineup. I can’t say the same about the Knicks who are coming into this one off a third straight loss after getting dismantled by the Jazz. The Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in New York and I think they stay hot here with another win behind their backcourt.
