The Los Angeles Lakers pay a visit to the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in stellar form this season as they’ve won 14 of their first 19 games, but they are coming into this one looking to bounce back after having their three-game win streak halted by the 76ers in a 107-106 loss last night. LeBron James led the team with 34 points, six rebounds and six assists, Anthony Davis added 23 points with eight rebounds and two blocks while Dennis Schroder chipped in with 16 points and four assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 47 percent from the field and eight of 24 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from a 14-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to take the lead with just 11.2 seconds remaining. However, the 76ers would go on to win the game thanks to a clutch shot from Tobias Harris with just 3.0 seconds remaining.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost 14 of their first 18 games and they will be hoping to bounce back after last night’s 122-107 loss at Cleveland. Jerami Grant led the team in scoring with 26 points on seven of 13 shooting, Mason Plumelee added 15 points with 12 rebounds and three assists, Wayne Ellington scored 17 points while Derrick Rose chipped in with 13 points off the bench. As a team, the Pistons shot 45 percent from the field and 11 of 27 from the 3-point line as they fought hard to take a two-point lead into halftime, before getting blown off the floor in the second half where the Cavaliers poured in 68 points as the Pistons just had no answer for Collin Sexton who torched them for 29 points on 10 of 14 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games playing on zero days rest. The Pistons are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games playing on zero days rest.
Head to head, the under is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings overall, the Lakers are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Detroit and the Lakers are 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Lakers will be disappointed after dropping their first road game of the season, but they will take plenty of confidence from the fact that they almost won despite looking down and out late in the game. The Pistons have been struggling from day one and they didn’t look very good in last night’s blowout loss to the Cavaliers. Blake Griffin should be available for Thursday after being rested last night, but I don’t think that will matter much as I still have the Lakers getting the win and cover here.
