The Houston Rockets play host to the Washington Wizards at the Capital One Arena on Tuesday night.
The Washington Wizards have really been doing it tough this season as they’ve lost nine of their first 12 games and they will be eager to bounce back after falling to the Spurs in a 121-101 loss on Sunday. Bradley Beal led the team with 31 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Jerome Robinson added 16 points while Alex Len chipped in with 11 points off the bench but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Wizards shot just 42 percent from the field and 14 of 42 from the 3-point line as they hung with the Spurs to trail by just one point at halftime, before getting blown out in the second half by 73-54 as they had no answer for the depth of the Spurs who have seven player finish in double figures. Russell Westbrook scored just nine points on three of 11 shooting while Isaac Bonga scored just seven points on three of 10 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have lost five of their last eight games but they will be gunning for a third straight win after making light work of the Mavericks in a 133-108 road win on Saturday. Eric Gordon led the team with 33 points on 10 of 17 shooting, DeMarcus Cousins added 28 points with 17 rebounds and five assists, David Nwaba scored 18 points while Mason Jones chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Rockets shot a healthy 54 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 38 points in the first quarter to take an early double-digit lead, before running away with it in the third quarter where they pushed the lead out to as many as 27 points in a one-sided affair.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Rockets are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games, 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games against a team with a losing record and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Houston and the over is 4-0-1 in the last five meetings overall.
Christian Wood is considered as doubtful, so the Rockets will likely go with DeMarcus Cousins in the starting lineup which seemed to work on Saturday. The Wizards have struggled all season and they will be low on confidence after getting rolled by the Spurs on Sunday. It's hard to split these two squads at this stage of the season, but there's a little more to like about the Rockets in this spot, even without Wood on the court. With that being said, I'm leaning towards the Rockets to continue their nice form with a narrow win and cover here.
