The Orlando Magic play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the Amway Center on Monday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have lost nine of their first 16 games and they will be looking to build some momentum after snapping a four-game skid with a 107-104 road win on Sunday. Gordon Hayward led the team with 39 points and nine rebounds on 15 of 25 shooting, Miles Bridges added 18 points on eight of 11 shooting off the bench, LaMelo Ball scored 11 points and eight assists off the bench, while Devonte Graham chipped in with 15 points and six assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 47 percent from the field and 14 of 36 from the 3-point line as they struggled for most of the contest, until the fourth quarter where they outscored the Magic by 33-18 to escape with the much-needed win. Terry Rozier scored just seven points on two of 10 shooting while Cody Zeller scored just four points on two of seven shooting.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been in a serious slump as they’ve lost eight of their past nine games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after last night’s narrow loss to the Hornets. Nikola Vucevic led the team with 22 points, 13 rebounds and four assists, Evan Fournier added 21 points with six assists while Cole Anthony and Gary Clark each scored 14 points. As a team, the Magic shot 44 percent from the field and 17 of 38 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in full control of the Hornets as they led by 14 points before watching that lead evaporate in the fourth quarter where they managed just 18 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days rest and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Magic are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 home games, 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games playing on zero days rest and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Orlando, the Hornets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Hornets are 14-4 ATS in the last 18 meetings in Orlando.
The Magic will be looking for revenge after allowing the Hornets to escape with the win last night, but they’re going to need more from their role players like Dwayne Bacon who scored just two points on one of seven shooting last night. Hayward led the way with 39 points last night and he could light up the scoreboard again unless the Magic find a way to slow him down. The Hornets are 14-4 ATS in the last 18 meetings in Orlando and I’m backing that trend to continue as the Hornets should be too good once again.
