The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a world of hurt as they've lost 18 of their last 19 games and they will be hoping to avoid a sixth straight defeat after getting routed by the Mavericks in a 139-123 road loss on Monday. D'Angelo Russell led the team with 29 points and five assists on 10 of 20 shooting, Malik Beasley added 21 points, James Johnson added 19 points off the bench while Jarrett Culver chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 44 percent from the field and 15 of 42 from the 3-point line, but they were always fighting an uphill battle after allowing 81 points in the first half. Karl-Anthony Towns sat out his third straight game and is expected to be out another two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat have been in a bit of a rut as they've lost six of their past eight games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling short against the Cavaliers in a 125-119 overtime road loss on Monday. Bam Adebayo racked up 22 points with 13 rebounds, nine assists and four blocks, Goran Dragic added 22 points with six assists off the bench while Kendrick Nunn chipped in with 21 points and four assists. As a team, the Heat shot 45 percent from the field and 16 of 42 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in control for most of the game to lead by as many as 22 points, before the Cavaliers rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and steal it late. Jimmy Butler sat out the past two games for personal reasons and he is listed as questionable for Wednesday.
Head to head, the over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings overall and the Timberwolves are 5-12-2 ATS in the last 19 meetings overall.
The Heat have been in a bit of a funk lately and they could once again be without their best player in Butler, but they're going up against the coldest team in the league as the Timberwolves have been mired in a season-worst slump and they're still working Russell into the offense. It's hard to feel confident about the Heat, but they're at home and the shorthanded Timberwolves are only 5-12-2 ATS in the last 19 meetings overall. Give me the Heat to snap out of their funk with a long overdue win and cover here.
