The Washington Wizards and the Boston Celtics collide at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Thursday afternoon.
The Washington Wizards are still searching for their first win in the bubble as they’ve now lost seven in a row after falling to the Bucks in a 126-113 loss on Tuesday. Rui Hachimura led all scorers with 20 points on six of 18 shooting, Ish Smith added 19 points with five assists off the bench while Jerome Robinson chipped in with 15 points and seven assists. As a team, the Wizards shot just 41 percent from the field and 12 of 35 from the 3-point line as they allowed 42 points in the second quarter to fall behind by 10 points going into halftime, before getting blown out in the third quarter where they trailed by as many as 22 points.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in great form as they’ve won five of their seven games in the bubble and they will be aiming for a fifth straight victory after making light work of the Grizzlies in a 122-107 win on Tuesday. Jayson Tatum led the way with an efficient 29 points on 10 of 13 shooting, Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker each scored 19 points while Enes Kanter and Marcus Smart each scored 11 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 51 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they started strong and outscored the Grizzlies by 56-40 in the first half, before making a final push with 39 points in the fourth quarter to make it a blowout.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Celtics are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team below .400.
Head to head, the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings overall, the Wizards are 5-15-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Boston and the Wizards are 1-3-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Wizards haven’t been able to buy a win in the bubble, but it looks like they’re going to have one last chance with the Celtics resting six players in Daniel Theis, Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward and Jaylen Brown. I still think the Celtics’ reserves take care of business in this one, but I think the Wizards do just enough to get the backdoor cover here in their last game of the season.
