The Washington Wizards and the New Orleans Pelicans duke it out at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Friday night.
The Washington Wizards have yet to win a game since the resumption of the season and they will be hoping to avoid a fifth straight defeat after getting stopped by the 76ers in a 107-98 loss on Wednesday. Thomas Bryant and Jerome Robinson led the scoring with 19 points each, Troy Brown Jr. added 17 points with eight rebounds and four assists while Ish Smith chipped in with 12 points and six assists. As a team, the Wizards shot 42 percent from the field and seven of 21 from the 3-point line as they struggled against a motivated 76ers team right from the start, scoring just 20 points in the first quarter. Rui Hachimura has been the lone bright spot for the Wizards, but he scored just eight points on two of 11 shooting.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been in a rut as they’ve lost three of their last four games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting trounced by the Kings in a 140-125 loss last night. Brandon Ingram led the team with 24 points, Zion Williamson added 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting in just 22 minutes of action, JJ Redick scored 18 points while Jrue Holiday chipped in with 17 points and five assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field and 14 of 34 from the 3-point line, but it still wasn’t nearly enough to hang with the Kings who exploded for 49 points in the first quarter and another 40 points in the third quarter.
Head to head, the under is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings overall, the Wizards are 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings in New Orleans and the Wizards are 20-7 ATS in the last 27 meetings overall.
The Wizards have really been doing it tough since the resumption of the season as they've had to field some funky lineups to cover for their long list of injuries. The Pelicans have been in a bit of a slump of their own and they will be kicking themselves after getting blown off the floor by the struggling Kings in their last outing. The Wizards are capable of hanging in the contest despite their lack of talent, but the Pelicans clearly have more to play for and with the players they have available, they should be more than good enough to finish on top in this one.
