Golden Eagles and Red Scare will meet in the semifinals of TBT 2020. This game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM EST start time and it will be televised on ESPN. The Golden Eagles are the #4 seed in the tournament, while Red Scare is the #8 seed.
The Golden Eagles, the Marquette alumni squad, took down the #12 seed Brotherly Love in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals once again. This Golden Eagles team was the 2019 TBT runner-ups to Carmen's Crew, so it is pretty fair to say that this squad knows how to play TBT basketball. The final score of the Golden Eagles quarterfinal win was 83-76. The Golden Eagles top player in that game had to be Dwight Buycks, who had 19 points, five rebounds, and two steals in the victory. This is the third straight tournament in which the Golden Eagles reached the final four, which is an incredible feat as it is. The Golden Eagles will look to punch its ticket to the championship for two consecutive years.
Red Scare defeated everyone's favorite Cinderella team House of 'Paign in the quarterfinals by the final score of 83-76. Red Scare outworked and out-competed Mike Daum and the Illini' alumni team throughout the game, but especially in the fourth quarter before the Elam Ending. Red Scare took a 19 point lead into the Elam Ending, but House of 'Paign was able to end on a 20-8 run to make the final score a little less lopsided. Red Scare, for those who are not familiar, is the Dayton alumni squad, headlined by a few players from last year's incredible Dayton team. Unfortunately, Obi Toppin is not apart of this team, but you would think he was based on the play of Red Scare thus far. Taking down two tough teams in Big X and now House of 'Paign is no easy task for any squad, but Red Scare is certainly not content with a mere semifinal appearance.
I think this is going to be a tightly contested game for a large part of it. Both teams can shoot the three-ball well, and I think that is going to be the most crucial part of this game when it is all said and done. I am going to side with the Golden Eagles, as this team's experience should push them back into the TBT championship.
