The Houston Rockets play host to the Brooklyn Nets at the Toyota Center on Saturday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have cooled off a bit lately as they’ve won just three of their last seven games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling to the lowly Knicks in a 94-82 home loss on Thursday. Spencer Dinwiddie continued his hot form with 25 points while Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot chipped in with 10 points, but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Nets shot an NBA season-low 27 percent from the field and 13 of 50 from the 3-point line as they finished with just eight 2-point field goals for the game.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets were on a massive wave of momentum heading into Christmas Day as they had won 10 of 13 games before falling flat on their faces in a 116-104 road loss at Golden State. Russell Westbrook led the team with 30 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, James Harden added 24 points with 11 assists while Danuel House Jr. chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Rockets shot just 37 percent from the field and 16 of 51 from the 3-point line as they took the lead in the first half, before getting run off the floor in the second half where they were outscored by 52-36. Westbrook shot just 11 of 32 from the field while no bench player scored more than six points, leaving too much pressure on Harden who only had one free throw attempt, which he missed.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games against a team with a winning home record. The Rockets are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games playing on two day’s rest.
Head to head, the over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings, the Nets are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and the Nets are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston.
The Rockets will be kicking themselves after dropping a game to the Warriors on Christmas Day, so they will be eager to get back on the court and make up for that one. However, you could say the same for the Nets who were embarrassing in their loss to the Knicks, so this should be a good one. The Rockets are obviously the big favorites at home as they clearly have more talent, but the Nets are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston and I think they can do enough to at least keep this one to single digits against this streaky Rockets outfit.
