The Line: Phoenix Suns -1.5 -- Over/Under: 217.5
The Miami Heat pay a visit to the Phoenix Suns at the Talking Stick Resort Arena on Thursday night.
The Miami Heat have started the season in great form as they've won five of their first seven games, but they will be hoping to bounce back after having their three-game win streak snapped by the Nuggets in a 109-89 road loss on Tuesday. Jimmy Butler led the team with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Kelly Olynyk added 13 points off the bench while Kendrick Nunn chipped in with 11 points and four assists. As a team, the Heat shot a miserably 36 percent from the field and nine of 29 from the 3-point line. Perhaps the elevation of the location played a factor in the Heat playing like they had heavy legs, but the shots just weren't dropping and the Heat never looked threatening after falling behind by double-digits in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns continue to be one of the surprise teams of the league and they're coming into this game looking for a fourth straight victory after taking down the previously undefeated 76ers in a 114-109 home win on Monday. Devin Booker led the team with 40 points on 15 of 19 shooting, Ricky Rubio added 21 points with seven rebounds and 10 assists while Aron Baynes chipped in with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. As a team, the Suns shot 53 percent from the field and 11 of 28 from the 3-point line as the Suns behind in the first half, before rallying in a dominant second half behind the hot hand of Booker who scored from everywhere.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss of more than 10 points and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Suns are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games and 7-0 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings, the Heat are 20-6 ATS in the last 26 meetings overall and the Heat are 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Phoenix.
The Heat started the season on fire, but they're coming into this one still reeling from a blowout loss to the Nuggets. The Suns have been just as hot to start the season and they're looking like a completely different team with Rubio and Booker in the backcourt. The Heat are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 road games and they are 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Phoenix, but this is a different Suns team playing with a lot of confidence. The Suns are 4-0 ATS in their four home games this season and I think that trend continues as I think they'll come out on top in a tight one.
