The Line: Memphis Grizzlies -2 -- Over/Under:
The Chicago Bulls travel to the FedExForum to battle the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.
The Chicago Bulls will be looking to avoid a second straight loss to start the season after falling painfully short to the Hornets in a 126-125 road loss on Wednesday. Lauri Markkanen led the team with 35 points and 17 rebounds on 13 of 25 shooting from the field, Thaddeus Young and Coby White scored 17 points apiece off the bench while Zach LaVine chipped in with 16 points and seven assists. As a team, the Bulls shot 46 percent from the field and nine of 30 from the 3-point line as they will be kicking themselves after rallying back from a 16-point first half deficit, only to fall just short despite leading by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies will be hoping to bounce back after getting trounced by 120-101 at the hands of the Heat on Wednesday. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the team with 17 points on five of 12 shooting, Tyus Jones added 15 points with seven assists off the bench while Ja Morant chipped in with 14 points and four assists in his debut. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 42 percent from the field and a miserly five of 32 from the 3-point line as they jumped out to a quick start to lead going into the halftime break. However, the Grizzlies just couldn't keep it up in the second half where they were outscored by 66-41.
Looking at the betting trends, the Bulls are 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 against the Western Conference, 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a loss and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. The Grizzlies are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 home games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team below .400 and 17-36 ATS in their last 53 games following a loss of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the road team is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings, the Bulls are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall and the Bulls are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Memphis.
The Bulls will be kicking themselves after blowing a 10-point fourth quarter lead against the Hornets in their season opener, so they will be keen to atone for their mistakes against this young rebuilding Grizzlies team. The Bulls are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Memphis and I think that trend continues as the combination of LaVine and Markkanen should be just enough to get the job done here. The road team is also 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings overall so I think the Bulls represent decent value as the road underdog here.
