Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat play host to the Memphis Grizzlies at the American Airlines Arena on Wednesday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies will be disappointed with their effort last season as they managed to win just 33 games, but they look to be headed for a full rebuild after they were finally able to trade Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz. Jae Crowder, Jonas Valanciunas and Jaren Jackson Jr. form the new core of the team, but the player I’m most excited to see is definitely the No. 2 pick Ja Morant who will have the luxury of learning on the job without any expectations as the Grizzlies are planning for the future with all the young talent they’ve stockpiled.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat will be hoping to bounce back after a disappointing season where they finished with a record of 39-43. The Heat weren’t the busiest team in the offseason, but they did manage to land a big fish in Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro while dealing away Hassan Whiteside. Bam Adebayo could be in for a breakout season as he is currently slated to fill in at the center position while Justise Winslow should continue at the point guard spot with Goran Dragic reportedly falling into a reserve role in an attempt to improve their bench scoring. With Butler securing the bag and leading the team on both ends of the court, the Heat have their sites on the playoffs, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they make more moves before the trade deadline.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 Wednesday games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on three or more days rest and 6-16 ATS in their last 22 against the Eastern Conference. The Heat are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six against the Western Conference, 7-2 ATS in their last nine games playing on three or more days rest and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-0 in the last five meetings in Miami, the favorite is 8-3-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings and the Grizzlies are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Grizzlies aren’t expecting to make the playoffs in what looks to be a rebuilding season, but the future is certainly bright with players like Morant and Jackson Jr. getting valuable experience. The Heat didn’t make a lot of noise in the offseason, but Butler should be a perfect fit for the Heat and they will only go as far as he can take them. The Heat are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games playing on three or more days rest. The line is a little hefty for the first game of the season, but I think the Heat kick off their season with an easy win and cover in this one.
