The Chicago Bulls kick off their season with a road game against the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Wednesday night.
The Chicago Bulls will be looking to start a new chapter in their journey as they will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing season that saw them win just 22 games. In the offseason, the Bulls were able to sign free agent Thaddeus Young and trade Tomas Satoransky but the player I’m most excited to see is rookie Coby White who was selected with the seventh pick in the draft. However, despite all the excitement of the new acquisitions, their fate rests mainly on the shoulders of Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen and Otto Porter Jr.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets are headed in the opposite direction after falling just short of the playoffs with an overall record of 39-43 last season. The Hornets were one of the underperformers in the offseason as they managed to lose key players in Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb, so there will be plenty of pressure on Terry Rozier, Nicolas Batum and Miles Bridges to pick up the slack in what is surely a rebuilding season.
Looking at the betting trends, the Bulls are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games playing on three or more days rest, 1-5 ATS in their last six against the Eastern Conference and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Hornets are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 5-1 ATS in their last six against the Eastern Conference and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings, the over is 8-1 in the last nine meetings and the Bulls are 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings in Charlotte.
I didn’t really expect much from either team last season as the Bulls remained one of the worst teams in the league while the Hornets fell just short of the playoffs. With all the roster changes over the offseason, it seems as though the Bulls are a team on the rise while the Hornets are certainties to finish near the bottom of the standings, especially because they weren’t able to get anything in return for Walker who is now with the Celtics. It’s never easy picking the early games in the season but there is a lot to like about the Bulls this season and I think they kick off their season with a solid road win against the new-look Hornets.
