The Minnesota Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets meet Wednesday in NBA action at the Barclays Center.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have nowhere to go but up after 36 wins last year and making the playoffs just once since the Dwane Casey era. The Timberwolves are going to learn more about their core for better or worse, as Jeff Teague, Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns are still the guys who are expected to lead this team. A full season of Robert Covington will help and Shabazz Napier has gotten better the last two seasons in the backup point guard role, but it’s up to the usual suspects to get the ball rolling. The Minnesota Timberwolves either start showing some progress or it may be time to shakeup the roster and start a rebuild. The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost 10 of their last 12 road games.
The Brooklyn Nets are fresh off 42 wins, and they followed that up by snagging Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in free agency. Reports indicate that Durant isn’t expected to play this season, but there’s no denying the future is bright for the other New York team. Either way for this year, the Nets return majority of the players who made last season possible and added one of the top scorers in the league at the point guard position. The addition of DeAndre Jordan is also a massive upgrade, as it gives the Nets rim protection when Jarrett Allen isn’t on the court. It may take time before the Nets reach their full potential, but basketball is on the rise in the BK. The Brooklyn Nets have won five of their last seven home games.
The Timberwolves are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games playing on 3 or more days rest and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Nets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 3 or more days rest, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Timberwolves are 22-8 ATS in the last 30 meetings and the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The under is 5-2 in Nets last 7 overall. The under is 6-0 in Timberwolves last 6 road games.
I've bashed the Minnesota Timberwolves these past few seasons and will continue to do so until I see improvement. There's not a lot of depth to this Minnesota roster and I don't believe Wiggins or Towns are capable of leading a team. They don't seem to have that dog in them that can rally the troops and get the Timberwolves to that next level. Even without Durant, the Brooklyn Nets have a deep and talented roster and are going to score a lot of points. Against a Timberwolves team that often lacks effort and isn't usually polished defensively, the Nets should have a field day in this game. I'll lay the numbers with the Brooklyn Nets.
