The Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings meet Friday in NBA preseason action at the NSCI Dome.
The Indiana Pacers will spend most of the offseason figuring out who is going to step up until Victor Oladipo returns from knee surgery. The Pacers added some impressive depth in Malcolm Brogdon and Jeremy Lamb to go along with the rising duo of Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner, but it’s the unknowns who need to make the most of these opportunities. Players like T.J. Leaf, Justin Holiday and Edmond Sumner have a chance to move up the pecking order and possibly earn consideration for playing time with their star player likely sidelined until at least December. With only four preseason games, reps are going to be very limited and players better make the most of what little chances they get. The Indiana Pacers have won five of their last eight preseason games.
The Sacramento Kings are a very young team that should benefit from these sort of trips, as there’s 11 players on this current roster who are 25 years old or younger. The Kings starting lineup came together last season and nearly snuck into a playoff spot before they ran out of gas. In order to compete in the West, the Kings deep to develop depth, and you’d love to see somebody like Yogi Ferrell or even a rookie like Kyle Guy make an impact this preseason. The Kings have a lot of intriguing pieces and it’s only a matter of time before everything comes together. Harry Giles did not travel with the Kings due to a knee injury. The Sacramento Kings have lost four of their last five preseason games.
The Pacers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and the over is 7-1 in Pacers last 8 Friday games. The Kings are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Friday games. The under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings. The under is 10-3 in Pacers last 13 road games.
Basketball preseason has a lot to do with youth and guys who are eager to prove themselves. The Indiana Pacers don't have a lot of young depth on their roster, while the Sacramento Kings entire roster are young players looking to make a name for themselves. While these games don't mean anything in the grand scheme, the Kings will be out to build on the positive vibes they created last season and have a roster full of guys fighting for key playing time. The Kings and the small chalk has to be the play here simply with them taking the results of these games a little more seriously.
