The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to the Talladega Superspeedway for the Chevy Silverado 250 on Saturday afternoon. The truck race at Talladega is the 2nd race in the round of 10 of the 2021 Truck Series Playoffs. Saturday’s race is only 100 laps so the intensity and the sense of urgency will be running high at the drop of the green flag.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the Chevy Silverado 250.
John Hunter Nemechek +700- John Hunter will fire off from the 7th position on Saturday afternoon at Talladega for the Chevy Silverado 250. In 19 races on the 2021 NASCAR Truck Series season, John has 11 top 5 finishes including 5 victories. John has 5 career starts at Talladega in the Truck Series and has only come away with 1 top 10 finish and zero wins. Off a disappointing 33rd place finish at Las Vegas one week ago with mechanical failure and damage, John sits 28 points above the cut line. Look for no mistakes from John on Saturday.
Sheldon Creed +750- Sheldon will take the field the green flag from the 9th position on Saturday afternoon at Talladega. After back-to-back wins at Gateway and Darlington, Creed finished 19th at Bristol and 36th at Las Vegas one week ago being involved in a scary crash. Vegas in the rearview mirror, Creed did finish 6th at Daytona to begin the season and finished 9th at Talladega in 2020. Creed 5 below the cutline into the final round of the 2021 Truck Series Playoffs and rebound at Talladega is in order.
Chandler Smith +1500- Chandler Smith will roll off from the 10th starting spot for the Chevy Silverado 250 at Talladega on Saturday. Smith is currently in the 8th spot in the playoffs, 24 points below the cut line heading into Saturday’s race at Talladega. Smith will need a victory to secure a spot in the final round of the playoffs at Phoenix, good news is he finished 3rd at Talladega in the 2020 Truck Series race. Look for Smith and teammate Drew Dollar to make way to the front towards the end of the race.
Carson Hocevar +1800- Carson will begin Saturday’s Truck Series race from the 3rd row in the 6th position. Hocevar sits in 6th place in the playoffs heading into Talladega, 16 points below the cutline. Hocevar’s only superspeedway race in the Truck Series came this season at Daytona to kick off 2021, started 12th and came home with a solid 5th place finish. With a fleet of NIECE motorsports teammates to help in the draft and a win needed, look for the 42 to be top of the leaderboard in the final stage.
Codie Rohrbaugh +7000– Codie will fire off from the 29th starting spot on Saturday afternoon in the Chevy Silverado 250 at Talladega. Most weeks we don’t consider Codie due to lack of speed in the truck but with the draft at Talladega and Daytona, he is worth a sprinkle of action. Avoiding the big wrecks is crucial at Talladega and Daytona and over the last 3 races on Superspeedways in the Truck Series, Codie has finishes of 3rd, 5th, and 8th place respectively. Look for Codie to lay back and strike very late, worth a sprinkle at a top 5 finish for +1400 as well.
Jeff’s Pick Chandler Smith +1500
