The NASCAR Cup Series will begin the round of 12 of the 2021 Playoffs on Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the South Point 400. Las Vegas is a 1.5-mile cookie-cutter oval, and has steep banking in the corners. Las Vegas is a medium tire wear track, and we should see a competitive race on Sunday. The restarts at Las Vegas are usually crazy, especially in the final stage, and pressure is on for those in the cut zone to perform well.
Here are a few drivers to consider for South Point 400.
Kyle Larson +350- Larson comes into Sunday’s race starting from the pole position. Larson led 103 of the 267 laps in the first race at Las Vegas for the Cup Series in 2021 to pick up win. Over the last 6 Cup starts for Kyle at Las Vegas, he carries an average driver rating of 107.1 that is 5th best with 3 top 5 finishes. Las Vegas is safest track for Kyle in the round of 12 with Talladega and the Charlotte Roval upcoming and we should expect Larson to have the best car on the track on Sunday night.
Denny Hamlin +700- Denny will share the 3rd row with Kevin Harvick and will start from the 6th spot for Sunday’s South Point 400. Denny has not been the best at Las Vegas with the 12th best average finish over the last 7 Cup Series races held here but over the last 2 starts has found speed and come home with 2 top 5 finishes. Denny had the fastest average green flag speed in the 2020 South Point 400 and the 4th best average green flag speed in the first race at Vegas in 2021. Expect Denny to be top 5 all night and in position to win.
Martin Truex Jr. +900- Martin will roll off from the 4th position on Sunday night out at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the South Point 400. Over the last 7 races at Las Vegas in the Cup Series, Truex has 6 top 10 finishes including 4 top 5 finishes and a win. Martin had the 7th best green flag speed in March at the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas in the Cup Series with the 6th place finish. Solid price and solid starting spot here for Truex on Sunday, look for a valiant effort.
William Bryon +1200- Byron will take the green flag from the 3rd starting spot for the South Point 400 on Sunday night. Over the last 7 Cup races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Byron has 2 top 10 finishes that included an 8th place finish in March of 2021. Byron had the 2nd best average green flag speed at the Cup race in Vegas in March of 2020 with a late race crash wiping out any chance of winning. Solid starting track position here for William and is a great dark horse pick for Sunday night.
Ryan Blaney +1400- Blaney fires off from the 2nd starting spot on Sunday night for the South Point 400. Blaney comes off a 5th place finish in the Pennzoil 400 here at Las Vegas back in March after starting 26th on the field. Ryan has been at least top 5 in average green flag speed in the last 3 Cup Series events at Las Vegas. Round of 12 in the 2021 Cup Series Playoffs provides the best opportunity for Blaney going to successful tracks, look for Blaney to start with a bang.
