NASCAR Cup Series resumes after 2 weeks idle by heading north to the Finger Lakes region and Watkins Glen, NY on Sunday afternoon for the Go Bowling at the Glen. Watkins Glen International is a 2.450-mile road course with 11 turns and narrow passages. Unlike other road courses such as Sonoma or Road America, Watkins Glen is not as technical of a road course, with more high-speed areas. Pit strategy is most important with track position and there have been many great finishes in NASCAR history made here at Watkins Glen.
Here are 5 drivers to consider for the Go Bowling at the Glen.
Chase Elliott +200- Chase comes into Sunday’s race starting inside row 6 in the 11th position alongside Ross Chastain. Elliott has been dominant on road courses as of late, winning 6 of the last 8 Cup Series races held on road courses. In 16 career Cup Series starts on road courses, Elliott has 9 top 5 finishes including 7 career wins. Chase has won the last 2 Cup Series races held at Watkins Glen International and is likely to be in the top 3 in the final stage on Sunday afternoon.
Kyle Larson +450- Larson will take the green flag from the 4th starting spot on Sunday afternoon in the Go Bowling at the Glen. Larson led 57 of the 92 total laps at Sonoma back in June taking home the checkered flag. In 6 races at Watkins Glen, Larson has 3 top 10 finishes including 1 top 5 finish. Larson has an average finish of 7th over the last 2 races at Watkins Glen and 6th best average driver rating of 100.6. After a disappointing 16th place finish at Road America last time the Cup Series ran on a road course, look for Larson to bounce back.
Martin Truex Jr. +600- Truex fires off from the 9th starting spot on Sunday afternoon for the Go Bowling at the Glen. Truex has the 2nd best average driver rating of 114.1 over the last 12 Cup Series races held on road courses that includes 6 top 5 finishes and 2 victories. In 14 career starts at Watkins Glen, Truex has 9 top 10 finishes including 6 top 5 finishes and a victory. Truex had the 2nd best green flag speed at Sonoma in the Cup Series race back in June and look for another valiant effort on Sunday.
Kyle Busch +750- Kyle will roll off from the 20th position on Sunday afternoon for the Cup Series race at Watkins Glen. Kyle will have a bit of work to do coming mid-way in the pack on Sunday, exercising patience through every turn. Over the last 2 races at Watkins Glen has an 11th place finish in 2018 and a 3rd place finish in 2019. With 15 starts at Watkins Glen, Kyle has 12 top-10s including 6 top 5 finishes and 2 wins. Kyle was 3rd in green flag speed at the road course in Sonoma in June and at the last road course event for the Cup Series at Road America. Nice value here on Kyle heading into Sunday’s Go Bowling at the Glen.
Denny Hamlin +1100- Hamlin will go from the 6th starting spot on Sunday afternoon in the Cup Series event at Watkins Glen. 14 career Cup Series starts at Watkins Glen for Denny with 7 top 10 finishes including 4 top 5 finishes and 1 victory. Denny had the 3rd fastest green flag speed at the Daytona Road Course in the Cup Series race in March and on the 2021 Cup Series road course schedule has finished top 10 in 3 of the 4 races. Denny comes at the best value Sunday afternoon, consider some action here.
