The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series makes way to Watkins Glen International on Saturday for the running of the United Rentals 176 at the Glen. Watkins Glen is an 11-turn road course, with long straightaways and is not as technical as other road courses on the Truck Series circuit. Saturday marks the first visit to Watkins Glen for the NASCAR Truck Series since the year 2000. No practice or qualifying heading up to the start of Saturday’s Truck Series event with most of the field seeing the Glen for the first time.
Here are 5 drivers to consider for the United Rentals 176.
A.J. Allmendinger +150- Allmendinger will come down from the Xfinity Series to have some fun with the Truck Series guys on Saturday afternoon. A.J. will roll off from the 25th position for Saturday’s United Rentals 176 at the Glen for GMS, one of the best trucks on the circuit. Allmendinger arguably has the most laps of any driver in the field heading into Saturday’s Truck Series race and comes from a road racing background. Saturday will mark the first race for Allmendinger since 2008 in the Truck Series but with some patience should be able to find the top 10 by the end of stage 1.
John Hunter Nemechek +400- John Hunter will fire off from the 7th starting spot on Saturday afternoon for the Truck Series race at Watkins Glen. Mediocre weekend for John and the guys at Kyle Busch Motorsports at Knoxville on the dirt and ended up with an 11th place finish after starting 37th. John Hunter finished 3rd place on the Daytona Road Course in the Truck Series back in February after leading 14 of the 44 total laps. Track position is key here at Watkins Glen and starting on row 3 is a plus here for the Truck Series points leader.
Todd Gilliland +600- Gilliland will start Saturday’s United Rentals 176 on the front row in the 2nd position after a nice 4th place effort at the Knoxville Raceway last time out. Todd has reeled off 10 top 10 finishes on the 2021 season including 6 top 5 finishes and a victory. The win for Gilliland came in the last Truck Series road course event in Austin, TX and had a 4th place finish at the Daytona Road Course. Solid value and a solid starting spot here for Todd for Saturday’s United Rentals 176 at the Glen.
Ben Rhodes +750- Rhodes rides into Saturday’s United Rentals 176 at the Glen 2nd in the 2021 Truck Series standings and will roll off from the 5th starting spot on. Ben has 11 top 10 finishes including 5 top 5 finishes and 2 wins to date in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2021. Ben won both Truck Series races at Daytona to begin the 2021 season leading 13 of the 44 laps on the Daytona Road Course. 5 top 10 finishes over the last 7 Truck Series races and a solid starting spot, Rhodes comes into Saturday’s Truck race at a nice value. Sprinkle some action here on Rhodes.
Kaz Grala +900– Kaz Grala will take the green flag in the United Rentals 176 at the Glen from the 23rd starting spot. Grala has only 2 starts in the Truck Series in 2021 but the starts came on road courses. Grala finished 8th at the Daytona Road Course in February and finished 2nd in the last Truck Series road course event in Austin, Texas. Kaz will have some work to do to get into a winning position but has the skill necessary to have a successful day at Watkins Glen.
Jeff’s Pick Todd Gilliland +600
