NASCAR Cup Series will head back to the west coast to Sears Point, CA in wine country on Sunday afternoon for the Toyota / Save Mart 350. Last Cup Series race came in 2019 on the Sonoma road course, with the 2020 schedule being adjusted around COVID. Sonoma is an 11 turn 2.520-mile road course and Sunday’s Cup Series event will be 90 laps to make up the 350-kilometer distance. No qualifying for Sunday’s race, the starting lineup has been determined.
Here are 5 drivers to consider for the Toyota / Save Mart 350.
Chase Elliott +225- Chase comes into Sunday’s race starting outside row 1 in the 2nd position next to teammate Kyle Larson. Elliott has been dominant on road courses as of late, winning 5 of the last 7 Cup Series races held on road courses. In 14 career Cup Series starts on road courses, Elliott has 7 top 5 finishes including 6 career wins. Starting 2nd, Chase will have the track position battle won from the drop of the green flag and is a solid big favorite on Sunday.
Martin Truex Jr. +400- Truex fires off from the 19th starting spot on Sunday afternoon for the Toyota / Save Mart 350. Truex has the 2nd best average driver rating of 116 over the last 10 Cup Series races held on road courses that includes 5 top 5 finishes and 2 victories. Truex won the 2018 and 2019 Cup Series races at Sonoma but in 2021 has finished 12th at the Daytona Road Course and 35th after a crash at COTA 2 weeks ago. Truex ready to get back to winning ways at Sonoma on Sunday will have to be patient considering the starting spot. Expect Martin to be battling Chase in the final stage.
Kyle Busch +700- Kyle will roll off from the 5th position on Sunday afternoon out in wine country. In 15 Cup Series starts at Sonoma, Kyle has 7 top 10 finishes including 5 top 5 finishes and 2 trips to victory lane. Kyle won the exhibition race Busch Clash at the Daytona Road Course back in February but has failed to finish in the top 5 on a road course in the Cup Series in 7 of the last 8. Busch did grab a 10th place finish at COTA in the rain 2 weeks ago and the track position coming into Sunday’s race at Sonoma should help. Consider Kyle here on Sunday at Sonoma.
Kyle Larson +800- Larson will lead the field to the green flag from the pole position on Sunday afternoon in the Toyota / Save Mart 350. After a dominating performance in the crown jewel event of the Coke 600 one week ago, Larson brings the momentum to Sonoma where in 6 career Cup Series races only has 1 top 10 finish. Larson won the pole over the last 3 Cup Series race at Sonoma but struggled after the green flag dropped. With a fresh start at Hendrick Motorsports, look for Larson to have a great day battling with Elliott and Truex on Sunday.
Kevin Harvick +1800- Harvick is the long shot play of the week, hard to believe at the high price heading into Sunday’s Cup Series event. Harvick has the 4th best average driver rating at road courses over the last 10 Cup Series races of 93.5. In 19 career Cup Series races at Sonoma, Harvick has 10 top 10 finishes including 6 top 5 finishes and 1 victory. Harvick will roll off from the 8th starting spot on Sunday afternoon and should be in the thick of things heading into the final stage of the Toyota / Save Mart 350.
