The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series makes way to Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for the first time in series history for the Toyota Tundra 225 on Saturday afternoon. COTA is a 3.410-mile road course and Saturday’s Truck Series event with consist of 42 laps, 143 miles or 225 kilometers that will make up the advertised distance. The Truck Series have travelled to a few new road course tracks over the last decade or so expect excitement here on Saturday afternoon.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the Toyota Tundra 225.
John Hunter Nemechek +325- John Hunter currently leads the point standings in the 2021 Truck Series, with 7 top 10 finishes on the season including 5 top 5 finishes and 2 victories. The only blemish for John Hunter on the season was at the dirt in Bristol in March. John Hunter finished 3rd at the Daytona Road Course back in February and in in 2016 won at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in one of the best finishes in Truck Series history. Nemechek is an excellent road course racer and will be in the best equipment in the field and is worth consideration.
Sheldon Creed +550- Sheldon comes into Saturday’s Toyota Tundra 225 sitting 3rd in the Truck Series point standings currently. On the 2021 season, Creed only has 4 top 10 finishes including 3 top 5 finishes and a win. Sheldon did have a nice 2nd place effort at the Daytona Road Course back February and won the 2020 event held at the Daytona Road Course in the Truck Series. Creed is another driver in great racing equipment and should be in consideration on Saturday.
Ben Rhodes +750- Rhodes is 2nd currently in the Truck Series points standing with 7 top 10 finishes including 3 top 5 finishes and 2 victories. Rhodes led 13 of the 51 laps at the Daytona Road Course earlier this season to pick up the victory. Rhodes has also picked up 3 top 10 finishes and 2 top 5 finishes in his career in the Truck Series on road courses through 6 races. Rhodes and team were fast on the Daytona Road Course and the expectation is the same heading into Saturday’s event. Take Rhodes a decent price.
Matt Crafton +1200– Crafton enters Saturday’s race with arguably the most starts in a Truck Series event on a road course. With 9 Truck Series career starts on road courses, Crafton has 7 top 10 finishes including 4 top 5 finishes. Crafton sits 5th in the 2021 Truck Series points standings with 4 top 10 finishes including 2 top 5 finishes here in 2021. Crafton finished 6th at the Daytona Road Course back in February and in 2020 had a 4th place finish at the Daytona Road Course in the Truck Series. Nice value on Matt Crafton on Saturday.
Todd Gilliland +2000- Gilliland is the long shot play to win the Toyota Tundra 225. Todd enters Saturday Truck Series event 6th in the point standings with 4 top 10 finishes including 2 top 5 finishes on the season. Todd finished 4th at the Daytona Road Course back in February. Todd finished a disappointing 15 at Darlington last time out in the Truck Series and will have an opportunity to bounce back in a big way. Sprinkle some action on Gilliland on Saturday.
