The NASCAR Cup Series will head north to take on the “Monster Mile” at Dover International Speedway on Sunday afternoon in the Drydene 400. Dover is a 1-mile high-banked concrete oval and Sunday’s race will consist of 400 laps making up the 400-mile advertised distance. Dover compares to Bristol and once again Sunday, the Cup Series will have the 750-horse- power package as was last Sunday at the Darlington Raceway.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the Drydene 400.
Martin Truex Jr. +350- Truex will begin Sunday’s Cup Series race at Dover from the pole position. Dover is the home track for Truex and over the last 6 Cup Series races on the Monster Mile has 5 top 5 finishes including a victory in May of 2019. Both Cup Series races at Dover in 2020, Martin finished 2nd place in each race. Coming off a dominating performance 1 week ago at Darlington in the 750-horsepower package, look for Truex to take advantage of the best starting track position at Dover on Sunday.
Kyle Larson +450- Larson will roll off from the 4th position for Sunday’s Cup Series race at Dover. Larson came up just shy to Truex at Darlington last Sunday, putting every bit of effort in the final 20 laps to finish 2nd. Over the last 4 Cup Series at Dover, Larson has 3 top 5 finishes including a victory in October of 2019. Larson has the 3rd best driver rating of 104.8 in the 4 Cup Series races mentioned at Dover. Kyle is very talented on the steep tracks on the Cup Series circuit, has raced very well at Bristol as well. Look for Kyle and team to be in contention on Sunday.
Denny Hamlin +600- Hamlin will begin Sunday’s journey around the Monster Mile from the 2nd position after a 5th place finish at Darlington last Sunday. Denny has 4 top 10 finishes over the last 6 Cup Series races at Dover including a win in 2020. Hamlin has the 4th best average driver rating over the last 6 Cup Series races at Dover of 101.5. Denny has 9 top 5 finishes on the 2021 Cup Series season and it’s only a matter of time before Hamlin is in victory lane.
Kevin Harvick +750- Kevin fires off from the 5th position for Sunday’s Drydene 400 at Dover. Kevin has the best average driver rating at Dover in the last 6 Cup Series races of 128.7. Kevin has 5 top 5 finishes, including 2 wins over the last 5 Cup Series races at Dover. Usually Harvick is the heavy favorite heading into the Dover Cup Series races as he won the last Cup Series race held at Dover in 2020. Harvick has performed better with the 750- horsepower package and we are getting some value here with Harvick for Sunday.
Alex Bowman +1800- Bowman rolls off on row 8 from the 16th starting spot on Sunday afternoon at Dover. Alex is a longshot play for Sunday’s Drydene 400. Bowman had 2 top finishes at Dover in the 2019 Cup Series races at Dover. Last season in 2020, Alex had a disappointing 21st place finish on the front end of the double header the Cup Series ran at Dover following up on the 2nd race with a 5th place finish after starting 21st. 2021 has been a rollercoaster for Bowman and team but if a few breaks go we might end up seeing Bowman in victory lane on Sunday.
Jeff’s Pick Kyle Larson +450
