The NASCAR Xfinity Series will wrap up the west coast swing with the trip to the Phoenix Raceway on Saturday afternoon for a duel in the desert. Phoenix is a unique, flat 1-mile tri-oval shaped track. Phoenix has characteristics of a short track and some characteristics of a road course. Later in 2021, the Championship will be contested in November at Phoenix, so a strong run here on Saturday is a must.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the Call 811 Before You Dig 200.
Austin Cindric +275 – Cindric will start in the 3rd position for Saturday’s race at the Phoenix Raceway. Austin led 72 of the 200 laps in the previous race at Phoenix to take home a victory and the 2021 Championship. In 6 starts at Phoenix, Cindric has 5 top 10 finishes including 3 top 5 finishes with the victory. Cindric has finished in the top 5 in all 4 races in the Xfinity Series in 2021 and in great form currently and look for Cindric to be up front on Saturday.
Justin Allgaier +275- Allgaier will fire off on Saturday for the Xfinity Series race from the 12th starting spot. In 21 starts in the Xfinity Series at the Phoenix Raceway, Justin has managed to bring home 13 top 10 finishes including 8 top 5 finishes with 2 victories. Allgaier started on the pole in the most recent race at Phoenix in November of 2020, led 76 of the 200 laps and finished 5th. Phoenix has arguably been a top 5 track for Justin in his Xfinity Series career, and I expect to Justin to be in contention Saturday and to snap out of the funk.
Ty Gibbs +1000- Ty Gibbs back in the #54 at Phoenix on Saturday and will begin competition from the 27th position. Gibbs won the Daytona RC event in the #54 car back last month and will be looking to make way through the field again on Saturday to do compete again. Gibbs doesn’t have a Xfinity Series start at Phoenix, but he did make a start in the ARCA Menards Series West back in November of 2020. Ty started 3rd and finished 2nd in the ARCA race in 2020 leading 77 of the 100 laps. Expect Gibbs to be top 10 by stage 2 on Saturday.
Daniel Hemric + 1100- Hemric will start on the pole for the Cal 811 Before You Dig 200 on Saturday afternoon. Another solid finish for Hemric and the Gibbs team last Saturday at Las Vegas, 2nd place and led 74 of the 200 laps. Hemric didn’t fair well in either race at Phoenix last season for JR. Motorsports finishing 30th and 25 respectively. Prior to 2020 thought, Hemric had 4 top 10 finishes in 4 starts at Phoenix including 2 top 5s. Now in top tier equipment, I expect to see Hemric and Cindric duking it out in the first stage.
Brandon Jones +1200- Jones will roll off from the 2nd position on Saturday for the Xfinity Series race at Phoenix. Jones heads into Saturday’s Xfinity Series race with 4 top 10 finishes over the last 5 races at Phoenix, including a win and a 3rd place in the Xfinity Series in 2020. Jones only led 24 of the 200 laps in the first race at Phoenix on the way to winning the race. 3 top finishes in a row in the Xfinity Series, Jones in great form at the moment and I expect him to have another top 5 car to compete on Saturday.
