We make our only trip of the 2020 season to Fontana, CA this weekend for the Auto Club 400. Fontana is an abrasive track, so we should expect moderate to high tire fall off. We should expect a lot of pit stops for tire changes, and this could determine who wins this weekend. We landed in victory lane last weekend with Joey Logano at +900. Let’s see if we can repeat this weekend here at Fontana.
Here are a 5 drivers to consider for the Auto Club 400 this weekend.
Kevin Harvick +500 – Harvick finished 4th in this race last year. Harvick ran 96.5% of the laps in the top 15. Harvick also had a driver rating of 107.6 in this race last year, good enough for 6th best. Harvick is one of the best drivers on circuit at managing the tires on the car. Look for Harvick to stay in the top 10, and be in position to win.
Kyle Busch +500- Kyle won this race last year in dominating fashion. Kyle led 134 of the 200 laps in this event last year, thus earning him the best driver rating of 148.5. I was surprised that Kyle struggled with performance last weekend at Las Vegas. I believe Kyle will do better this weekend at Fontana, and I will have a unit on him this weekend.
Joey Logano +600- Joey finished 2nd at Fontana last year, and finished 5th at this track in 2018. Joey had the 3rd best pass quality percentage of 74.6 here at Fontana last year, and ran 100 % of the laps in the top 15. Joey is among the best at 2 mile D shaped oval tracks, and I expect the 22 to be on top of the scoreboard this weekend.
Ryan Blaney +1600- Ryan is my dark horse pick to win this weekend here at California. Ryan finished 5th in this race last year, and has an average driver rating of 102 in the last 2 races here at Fontana. Ryan showed quite bit of speed last weekend, and I believe that will carry over to Fontana this weekend.
Denny Hamlin +2000- Denny is my longshot play of the week, and I feel this will be one of my shortest prices on a longshot for the entire season. California is a challenging track, as it sets apart the superior teams from the lesser funded race teams. Denny has a driver rating of 102.1 here at Fontana over the last 2 races, which is 5th best. He typically qualifies in the top 15 here at Fontana, so I have no problem giving him a look this weekend.
