The NASCAR Xfinity Series makes a return to the Martinsville Speedway for the first time in 14 years on Saturday afternoon to run the Draft Top 250. Saturday’s race will have 4 of the 8 playoff contenders eliminated, setting up our Championship 4 next week at Phoenix. Martinsville is the smallest track on the Xfinity circuit at .526 mile. Saturday’s race is only 250 laps and any mistakes throughout the race are devastating.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the Draft Top 250.
Austin Cindric +360- Cindric will begin the Xfinity race on Saturday from the pole position. Austin currently sits 2nd in the standings, 14 points above the cutline. A top 5 finish at Martinsville on Saturday would pretty much secure Austin a place in the Championship 4 at Phoenix next weekend. A win for Austin would be even better. Cindric has 3 races in the Truck series at Martinsville with 1 top 10 finish. Cindric’s road course experience will tie in well with the craft that is required to get the paper clip fast. Consider Austin on Saturday afternoon.
A.J. Allmendinger +850- A.J, will roll off from the 37th starting spot on Saturday. Allmendinger will have to be patient and have some breaks go his way on Saturday to get in position. A.J. has the most laps of any competitor at Martinsville of those entered in Saturday’s Draft Top 250. In 21 starts in the Cup Series at Martinsville, A.J. had 7 top 10 finishes and 2 top 5s. With only 250 laps, A.J. will have to avoid trouble and use the stage breaks and cautions to gain that important track position. Love the experience A.J brings into Saturday’s race, consider him for a win on Saturday.
Ross Chastain +850- Chastain will fire off from the 4th position on Saturday afternoon at the Martinsville Speedway for the Draft Top 250. Ross sits 6th in the standings 15 points below the cut line into the Championship 4. Chastain is another that comes into the race at Martinsville with a ton of experience, including 8 starts in the Truck Series with 4 top 10s and 2 top 5s. Chastain will have the track position advantage from the drop of the green flag, and has to win the race Saturday in order to move onto to the Championship 4 at Phoenix.
Harrison Burton +1200- Burton will roll off from the 10th position on Saturday afternoon at the Martinsville Speedway. Martinsville is the home track of the Burtons and Harrison has a good deal of experience here. Burton has 7 starts in the Truck Series at Martinsville with 4 top 10s, including 3 top 5 finishes. Burton didn’t make the round of 8 and has nothing to lose on Saturday. I can easily see Burton winning on Saturday, so sprinkle in some action.
