The NASCAR Cup Series will run the 2nd race in the round of 12 of the 2020 playoffs on Sunday at Talladega Super Speedway in the YellaWood 500. The 4 drivers on the outside looking in include Austin Dillon, Aric Almirola, Clint Bowyer, and Kyle Busch. Talladega is the big 2.66 mile oval, sister track to Daytona so the draft is in play all weekend. Ultimately, the draft can lead to the huge wrecks and that can lead to a driver with a big price winning the race outright.

Here are a few drivers to consider for YellaWood 500.

Chase Elliott +1000- Chase will roll off from the 10th starting spot on Sunday afternoon for the YellaWood 500 at Talladega. Chase enters Sunday’s race sitting 6th in the standings, trying to stay above the cut line. Over the last 7 races at Talladega, Chase has 3 top 10 finishes, including 2 top 5s and a victory. Chase will have to earn a top 5 on Sunday if he is going to secure a spot in the round of 8 in the playoffs. Chase is a co-favorite for good reason, and I could easily see him winning on Sunday.

Brad Keselowski+1100 – Brad will roll off from the 7th spot on Sunday afternoon at Talladega. Keselowski sits 3rd in the point standings heading into Talladega, but he is in no secure position to make the round of 8. Brad’s success at Talladega over the years could be the saving grace on Sunday. Over the last 7 races at Talladega, Keselowski has 2 top 10s including a victory in 2017. Brad is one of best on the track when in the draft and especially when up front blocking the competition. I look for Keselowski to be strong on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Bowman +1600- Bowman will start Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega from the 4th position. Bowman comes into Talladega on Sunday 7th in the 2020 point standings, most definitely on the bubble. Alex has the 8th best average driver rating over the last 5 races of 88.1 at Talladega and an average finish of 17.40. Alex has 3 top 10 finishes and 1 top 5 finish in the 5 races he has run in the Cup Series at Talladega. Bowman is another of the 2020 Playoff contenders that needs a top 5 finish on Sunday to avoid the cut line. I can see him and Chase Elliott teaming up and getting to the front and having a chance to win Sunday.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. +2000 – Stenhouse really excels well at Daytona and Talladega. Ricky will start from the 26th position on Sunday, but I am not at all worried about how far back he will start. Stenhouse has the 3rd best average finish over the last 7 races at Talladega among active drivers at 10.14. Ricky has 5 top 10 finishes including 4 top 5s and a victory. Stenhouse is worth taking a shot on Sunday, so give him a look.
