The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series heads to the Talladega Super Speedway for the Chevy Silverado 250 on Saturday afternoon. The truck race at Talladega is the final race in the round of 10 so 2 drivers will not move on to the next round of playoffs. Saturday’s race is only 100 laps so the intensity and the sense of urgency will be running high at the drop of the green flag.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the Chevy Silverado 250.
Sheldon Creed +800– Creed will start from the pole position for Saturday’s Chevy 250 at Talladega. Currently, Sheldon leads the 2020 point standings in the NASCAR Truck Series over Brett Moffitt and it appears Creed will move onto the round of 8 in the playoffs after Talladega on Saturday. Creed finished 9th at Daytona in 2020, 9th at the Talladega race in 2019 and 17th at Daytona in 2019. Creed has done a great job avoiding the big wrecks at the big tracks, and I think he will be in contention for a win on Saturday afternoon.
Grant Enfinger +800- Grant will roll off from the 4th position on Saturday afternoon at Talladega. Enfinger won at Daytona back in February and finished 10th at Talladega in 2019. Enfinger currently sits 4th in the 2020 point standings and avoiding the big wreck is key to making sure he doesn’t fall below the cut line. Enfinger is perennially good at Daytona and Talladega and is co-favorite for good reason. Consider Grant for the win on Saturday.
Todd Gilliland +2200- Todd currently sits 10th in the 2020 standings which is the first position cut after Saturday’s race at Talladega. Todd will begin Saturday’s Chevy Silverado 250 from the 10th position. Gilliand finished 16th at Daytona back in February and has a great track record with Kyle Busch Motorsports. I do have some concern Todd will not get the drafting help late in the race unless Tanner Gray can make it up front. Either way, Todd must not get caught up in the big wreck if he is to move onto the round of 8 in the playoffs. Look for Todd to be in contention here at Talladega on Saturday.
Chandler Smith +3500- Smith will be my long shot play for Saturday’s Chevy Silverado 250. Chandler will roll off from the 5th position so he will have the track advantage to begin the race. Smith is racing part time for Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2020 and not eligible for playoff contention. Saturday’s Truck race at Talladega will be Chandler’s first at either Daytona or Talladega. The Kyle Busch Motorsports teams have run very well at Talladega, and I expect a good showing here for Chandler Smith.
