The NASCAR Cup Series will begin the round of 12 of the 2020 Playoffs on Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the South Point 400. Las Vegas is a 1.5 mile cookie-cutter oval, and has steep banking in the corners. Las Vegas is a medium tire wear track, and we should see a competitive race on Sunday. The restarts at Las Vegas are usually crazy, especially in the final stage, and pressure is on for those in the cut zone to perform well.
Here are a few drivers to consider for South Point 400.
Kevin Harvick +500- Kevin Harvick comes into the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the South Point 400 red hot and will start on the pole. Harvick was able to drive around Kyle Busch back last Saturday night at Bristol and pick up a win in the Night Race. Kevin has the best average driver rating at all 1.5 mile intermediate tracks since 2017 at 115.5. Since 2017, Harvick has 4 top 10 finishes, 3 of which are top 5s and a victory. Harvick has plenty of reasons to be the favorite at Vegas and at +500 is not a bad value.
Brad Keselowski +600 – Brad will roll off from the 12th spot on Sunday evening at Las Vegas. The 34th place finish at Bristol 1 week ago did not help the starting spot for Las Vegas, but Brad should be able to overcome the track position. Brad has the best average finish of 4th place over the last 6 races here at Las Vegas. Keselowski has 6 top 10 finishes, including 4 top 5s and 1 victory. Brad needs a bounce back right away, and no better place than Las Vegas. Take some action here on Keselowski.
Joey Logano +650 – Joey will start the South Point 400 from the 5th position on Sunday evening. Joey currently sits 4th in the standings and will easily move on to the next round of the playoffs. Logano won the race at Las Vegas back in February of 2020 and will be looking to repeat here on Sunday evening in the South Point 400. Logano has the 2nd best average finish of 4.33 since 2017 at Las Vegas, including 4 top 5s and 2 victories. Logano is one of my favorite plays for Sunday’s South Point 400, so take a shot.
Chase Elliott +1300- Chase is long shot play for me on Sunday afternoon at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Elliott will start inside of row 2 from the 3rd position for the South Point 400 and should have great pit selection for the race. Chase has 2 DNFs over the last 6 races at Las Vegas and that bogs down what we see on paper. Beyond the DNFs, Chase has 3 top 10 finishes at Vegas, including 2 top 5s. Chase had a very fast care here at Vegas back in February. I think Elliott is worth sprinkling in on Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
