The Nascar Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series will make the first trip to Richmond for the first time since 2005. Most of the drivers entered into Thursday’s race do not have a lap at Richmond. I do think the less experienced drivers will not be at as big of a disadvantage on Thursday. Richmond is a flat, .75 mile D-shaped short track oval.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the ToyotaCare 250.
Brett Moffitt +350- Moffitt will begin the Toyota Care 250 from the 4th spot. Brett finished 2nd at Gateway back 2 weeks ago, and that track is probably the closest to Richmond the Truck Series has visited on the 2020 season. Moffitt still holds down the 2nd position in the points standings, and boy what a disappointing finish last week at Darlington. Moffitt has laps around Richmond in the former K&N Pro Series, but that came back in 2013. Brett is the favorite for Thursday’s race, and great chance he could win.
Austin Hill +500- for not having any experience at Darlington, Austin finished 3rd against a couple of veterans in a great finish. Hill comes into the Richmond race with the points lead and will start Thursday’s event from the pole position. Austin has been on cruise control over the last 4 races with 3 top 5 finishes and an 8th place finish at Dover. The performance we are seeing out the truck Austin drives right now is top notch, so consider him to win to the ToyotaCare 250.
Christian Eckes +550- Eckes will begin the ToyotaCare 250 from the 3rd starting spot. Eckes ran an impressive 5th last week at Darlington, one of his 5 top 5 finishes on the year. Christian has yet to run a lap at Richmond, but the same was said last week at Darlington and great. Christian comes into the ToyotaCare 250 6th in the 2020 points standings, and he has a truck that can win on Thursday night.
Todd Gillland +1500- Todd is my long shot to win on Thursday evening. Gilliland will begin from the 8th position and will have use the stage breaks and cautions to gain track position. Todd is one of my favorite up and coming drivers in the Truck Series. Gilliland finished 7th at Darlington last week. Todd led 76 of the 160 laps at Gateway 2 weeks ago. I see Todd having a legit shot to get to the front at Richmond and winning.
