The Nascar Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series will make the first trip to Darlington in 9 years on Sunday for the South Carolina Education Lottery 200. Darlington is a 1.33 mile egg shaped oval, old school and has an extremely abrasive surface. Most of the competition entered in the Truck Series race have not race a lap here yet. We have some Cup Series veterans making an appearance on Sunday as well, so Sunday’s Truck race will be fun to watch.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the South Carolina Education Lottery 200.
Christian Eckes +700- Eckes will start Sunday’s Truck Series race from the 17th position. Christian will have to get to work quick to put himself in position to win. Eckes is one of many drivers entered into the race Sunday having no starts at Darlington. Eckes had an 8th place finish at Homestead back in June and finished 11th at Dover 2 week ago. Eckes has that KBM horsepower under the hood, and all that comes with it. Avoid the Darlington stripe, and Eckes could be in contention on Sunday in the final stage.
Zane Smith +750 Zane won the Dover race 2 weeks ago, and Dover is comparable to Darlington minus the heavy tire wear. Zane will roll off from the 4th position for Sunday’s cruise around the Darlington Raceway. Zane is one of many in the field that has not turned a real lap at Darlington in a Truck Series event. I don’t doubt Zane can fly around Darlington, I just hope he can manage the tires. Zane is worth considering for Sunday’s Truck Series race.
Matt Crafton +1600- Crafton will start Sunday’s Truck Series race from the 10th position. Crafton is one of my favorite plays for Darlington Sunday because he is one of the few to have Truck experience at Darlington. Crafton has not won a race a Darlington in his career, and a win would mean the world to Crafton. Crafton will be able to manage tires Sunday afternoon, and that should help put him in position to win Sunday afternoon.
Todd Gillland +2500- Todd is my long shot to win on Sunday afternoon. Gilliland will begin from the 15th position and will have use the stage breaks and cautions to gain track position. Todd is one of my favorite up and coming drivers in the Truck Series. Todd has top 10 finishes at Homestead and Dover in the 2020 season. Sunday’s race will mark the first at Darlington in a Truck for Gilliland, but I think he will be in contention. Sprinkle a little action on Gilliland on Sunday.
