The Nascar Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series makes way to the Madison, IL, just outside St. Louis, MO to WWT Raceway at Gateway for the CarShield 200 on Sunday. Gateway is a 1.25 mile oval and it will take 160 laps to make up the 200 mile advertised distance. Gateway is a unique track, as turn 1 and 2 have a tighter radius that turns 3 and 4.
Here are a few drivers to consider for the CarShield 200.
Brett Moffitt +470- Moffitt will start Sunday afternoon’s CarShield 200 from the 2nd position. Brett finished 5th in the 2019 race at Gateway, running 159 of the 160 laps in the top 15. Moffitt continues a successful 2020 campaign as he has 6 top 10 finishes over the last 7 races. Brett should be in contention for the win in the final stage of the CarShield 200.
Austin Hill +850- Hill will begin Sunday’s CarShield 200 from the 4th starting spot. Hill is still on top of the 2020 Truck Series standings, and will have an opportunity to increase that lead on Sunday. Hill has raced 4 times at Gateway, and has yet to finish in the top 10. I strongly feel that the top 10 drought will go away at Gateway on Sunday for Austin Hill, and he should be in contention in the final stage.
Johnny Sauter +1700- Sauter is my dark horse pick to win the CarShield 200 on Sunday afternoon. Johnny will roll off from the 9th starting position for the CarShield 200, and that is great track position to start with at Gateway. In 7 starts at Gateway in the NASCAR Truck Series, Johnny has finished in the top 5 in every race. Although Johnny hasn’t won a Truck Series race here, he will have a great shot to knock Gateway of the list to win at.
Todd GIlliland +2900- Todd is my long shot to win at Gateway on Sunday in the CarShield 500. Todd will start the race at Gateway on Sunday from the 6th position. Gilliland has 3 starts in the Truck Series here at Gateway, and 2 of those races he finished 2nd in a Kyle Busch Motorsports truck. Gilliland ran cold through much of July here in 2020, but over the last 3 races, Todd has 2 top 5 finishes. No better place than Gateway for Todd to go and have another great day. Consider sprinkling in a little on Todd Gilliland for Sunday’s CarShield 200.
Jeff’s Pick Brett Moffit +470
