The Nascar Cup Series makes a trip north to the “Monster Mile” Dover Downs for the Drydene 311 on Saturday. The Cup Series race on Saturday will be the first of 2 races at Dover this weekend. Dover is a 1 mile, steep oval that is basically a bigger version of Bristol. Passing at Dover is challenging, and typically the cream rises to the top very fast.
Here are a 5 drivers to consider for Drydene 311.
Kevin Harvick +350- Harvick will begin the Drydene 311 from the 10th spot. No doubt Harvick should get back on track at Dover Saturday after a disappointing result at the Daytona road course last weekend. Kevin has the best average driver rating over the last 6 races held at Dover of 120.2. Harvick has led 453 laps over the last 6 at Dover which is the most, plus 5 top finishes including a victory. Harvick is a solid bet as the favorite at Dover on Saturday.
Martin Truex Jr. +400- Truex will start in the 2nd row from the 3rd position on Saturday for the Drydene 311. Dover is the home track for Truex, and he traditionally runs very well here. Over the last 6 Dover races Truex has the best average finish of 4.83. Truex has led 300 laps over the last 6 races, and he has 5 top 5 finishes and 1 win in 2019. Truex is another solid option for Saturday’s Drydene 311, and the starting position will be advantageous.
Chase Elliott +550- Chase is coming off a dominating performance at the Daytona road course, and will start from the pole on Saturday for the Drydene 311. Since the return in May, Chase started out very well but has seemed to have lost some speed on the ovals. Over the last 6 races, Chase has the 4th best average driver rating of 97.3, with 4 top 5 finishes and 1 victory. Chase won the All Star race at Bristol back in June and almost one the Food City 500 back in May at Bristol. I will heavily consider Chase for a victory at Dover on Saturday.
Jimmie Johnson +2000- Jimmie is my dark horse to win at Dover on Saturday. Jimmie has 11 wins at Dover in 36 career starts at the Monster Mile, as well as 25 top 10 finishes. Johnson has a victory in the last 6 races as well as 4 top 10s. Jimmie and team need a win quickly to secure a spot in the 2020 playoffs, as he is saying farewell to the Cup Series at the end of 2020. Dover is a perfect spot for Jimmie to pick up a win, and I will have some action in on him.
Alex Bowman +2500- The Hendrick Team has always traditionally run well at Dover Downs, and Bowman is no exception. Bowman is my long shot play this week and will start from the 11th position on Saturday. Bowman finished 2nd in May of 2019, and Bowman finished 3rd in the October race in 2019. Over the last 6 races at Dover Downs, Bowman has the 5th best average driver rating of 94.5. Bowman will have a little work to do to get that top spot, but I think he can get there by the final stage.
