The Nascar Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series will head south to the Daytona Road Course on Sunday afternoon for the Sunoco 159. Sunday’s race will consist of 44 laps that will make up the distance for the Sunoco 159. Sunday’s race on the road course at Daytona will be the only road course race of 2020 for the Truck Series.

Here are a 5 drivers to consider for the Sunoco 159.

Brett Moffitt +225- Brett will begin Sunday’s Sunoco 159 from the 3rd starting spot. Moffitt won the only road course race in 2019 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, leading 44 of the 64 total laps. Moffitt finished 3rd in the 2018 race at Candaian Tire Motorsport Park. Brett will not have to climb through the field on Sunday afternoon to get to the top 5, so I am heavily considering Moffitt for the Sunoco 159.

Alex Tagliani +420- Alex is a pure road course specialist, and isn’t competing full time in the 2020 Truck Series. Alex was ran full time in the INDY car series from 2010 to 2013, so he has plenty of road course experience. Alex had turned laps in sports cars at the Daytona road course in the Rolex 24, and I think he will have an advantage on Sunday. Tagliani will be driving the 51 machine for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Alex will have some work to do as he will be starting in the 21st position. Alex finished 2nd in 2019 at Candaian Tire Motorsport Park, so I will have some action in on him.

Austin Hill +850- Hill will start the Sunoco 159 from the 2nd row in the 4th position. Austin is current on top of the 2020 Truck Series standings, with 9 top 10 finishes including 5 top 5s and a win. In 2019 at Candaian Tire Motorsport Park, Austin finished 5th which is very respectful considering limited experience on road courses. Barring any issues, we should see Austin maintain a top 5 position for most of the race on Sunday and be in contention to win.

Sheldon Creed +1700- Creed is my dark horse pick to win the Sunoco 159 on Sunday afternoon. Creed currently sits 7th in points, and has 1 win in 2020. Sheldon finished 4th in the lone 2019 road course race at Candaian Tire Motorsport Park, after starting 17th. Creed will begin Sunday’s Sunoco 159 from the 14th position, and he should make it to the front by the end of the race.

Johnny Sauter +2900- Sauter is my long shot to win the Sunoco 159. Johnny will start Sunday’s Sunoco 159 from the 11th position, so he will have a little work to do to get to the front. At Candaian Tire Motorsport Park, Sauter has 6 top 10 finishes over the last 7 races. Sauter currently sits 11th in the 2020 Truck Series point standings, close to the bubble on making the playoffs. Johnny needs a win to secure a place in the 2020 playoffs, and I feel the Daytona road course will be one of the best opportunities to do so.
