The Nascar Cup Series will be running inaugural Go Bowling 235 on the road course at Daytona on Sunday afternoon. The Daytona road course is a 3.61 mile road course. Sunday’s race will be 65 laps total to make up the 235 mile distance. Sunday’s Go Bowling 235 being the first Cup Series race at the Daytona road course, I will have to look back at races at the Charlotte Road Course, and I will look at races at Watkins Glen.
Here are a 5 drivers to consider for Go Bowling 235.
Martin Truex Jr. +600- Truex heads into Sunday’s race at Daytona 7th in the 2020 point standings, and has a secured a spot in the playoffs coming up soon. Over the last 8 Cup Series races at road courses, Truex has 3 wins. Truex has the best average driver rating of 123.6, with 6 top 10 finishes. Truex will have a top 12 starting spot, so he will have the necessary track position to stay competitive from the drop of the green flag. I have confidence that Truex will be in contention Sunday afternoon.
Kevin Harvick +700- Harvick heads into the Go Bowling 235 not as a favorite. I think we are getting some value on Kevin Harvick for Sunday’s race. Harvick finished 3rd at the Charlotte Road Course race back in 2019 and finished 7th at Watkins Glen in 2019. Kevin has 7 top 10 finishes over the last 8 races at road courses. Harvick does have 1 victory over the last 8 road course races, as well as an average driver rating of 105.5. Depending on the starting spot, Harvick may not dominate Sunday’s race, but I suspect he will be in position to win in the final stage.
Denny Hamlin +800- Hamlin is coming off a 4th straight top 10 finish, and 3 finishes were top 5s. Denny has quietly been a top 5 road racer over the last 8 on road courses. Hamlin has an average finish of 8.75 and an average driver rating of 92.9 over the last 8 road course races. While Denny hasn’t found victory lane at a road course over the last 8 races, the starting position should allow Denny to at least have a great first stage. Based on Denny’s history at road courses, I will have a little action in.
Brad Keselowski +1200- Keselowski heads into Sunday’s Go Bowling 235 2nd in the 2020 point standings for the Cup Series. Brad was very impressive early in his career at road courses, but over the last 8 races has been mediocre. Brad has the 6th best average driver rating of 92.9 over the last 8 at road courses, but his average finish is 13.88. Brad has one of the faster cars at road courses, but has not put the finishes together. As a dark horse pick for Sunday’s race, I think Brad will be in the top 5 in the final stage baring any penalties.
Clint Bowyer +2000- Bowyer will be my longshot pick to win on Sunday. Clint currently sits 12th in the 2020 point standings, and a win would secure a playoff berth for the fall. Over the last 8 races at road courses, Clint has the 2nd best average finish of 7.38, and an average driver rating of 92.7. Clint has been able to avoid trouble at road courses well, and no doubt that has attributed to his impressive average finish. Clint loves to let the race car hang loose, and that’s what it takes at to be fast at road courses. I will sprinkle in a little action.
