The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Daytona on Sunday for the Go Bowling 235. Sunday’s Cup Series race will take place on the 3.6 mile road course, and this will be first time ever for the series. With no prior NASCAR races taking place at the Daytona road course, we will need to look back at the performances from the other 3 road courses the Nascar Cup Series competes at. I will be referencing the last 6 races at road courses for the Cup Series below.
Here are a few matchups to consider for the Go Bowling 235.
Brad Keselowski -115 vs. Joey Logano -115
Brad has finished ahead of Logano in 5 of the last 6 Cup Series races competed on road courses. Logano has struggled to put together finishes at road courses, and has an average finish of 19.75 over the last 8 races. Brad has the 6th best average driver rating over the last 8 road course races. Simply put, Brad has continued to be better overall again Logano at road courses, and I feel very strong about this pick for Sunday.
Jeff’s Pick Brad Keselowski -115
Kurt Busch -118 vs. Clint Bowyer -112
Bowyer has won 4 of the last 6 against Kurt at road course races in the Cup Series. Over the last 8 Cup races at road courses, Bowyer surprisingly has the 2nd best average finish of 7.38. Kurt has been no slouch either, with an average finish of 9.5 in the last 8 races at road courses including 6 top 10 finishes. Both Clint and Kyle sit inside the top 16 in the 2020 point standings, but this is an excellent opportunity for each to have a great finish. I am going to side with Clint on Sunday.
Jeff’s Pick: Clint Bowyer -112
Alex Bowman -115 vs. William Byron -115
Bowman has finished ahead of Byron 5 times in the last 6 races held on road courses in the Cup Series. Bowman has an average finish of 9.5 over the last 8 races on road courses, along with 2 top 5 finishes. Bryon has an average finish of 18.83 over the last 8 races on road courses. Byron and Bowman both had top 10 runs at the Charlotte road course in 2019, but in the bigger sample size Bowman has prevailed. I will take a shot on Bowman over Bryon on Sunday.
Jeff’s Pick: Alex Bowman -115
Kyle Busch -125 vs. Ryan Blaney -106
Kyle and Ryan have split the last 6 road races in the Cup Series 3 and 3. Blaney captured a win in 2018 at the first ever race on the Charlotte road course. Kyle has the 4th best average driver rating over the last 8 road races of 101.9, but no wins in this time period. While Kyle is 9th in the point standings currently, a win would really help this team gain momentum heading into the playoffs. I like Blaney more as he has finished way better than Kyle over the last 2 road course races, and I look for that trend to continue.
Jeff’s Pick: Ryan Blaney -106
