Saturday afternoon the NASCAR Xfinity Series will do battle for the first time ever on the road course at Daytona International Speedway. The road course at Daytona is 3.6 miles. The Xfinity Series will go 52 laps on the road course to make up the 188 mile distance for Saturday afternoon’s race. The UNOH 188 will be the first on the Daytona road course for any of the NASCAR Series, and we should see a great show on Saturday afternoon.
Here are a 5 drivers to consider for the UNOH 188.
Austin Cindric +130- Cindric will begin the UNOH 188 on the front row from the 1st. position. Austin has been flawless on road courses in the Xfinity Series in his career, and hasn’t finished a road course race outside the top 5 since 2018. Austin won the race at Road America last weekend, and Cindric finished 5th back in July at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway GP circuit. Cindric is for sure worth a considerable bet on Saturday afternoon.
A.J. Allmendinger +275- A.J. will begin Saturday’s UNOH 188 from the 10th spot, so he will not have to do as much work as he did a week ago at Road America. On the 2020 Xfinity season, A.J. finished 4th at the INDY road course, and he finished 2nd last week at Road America after starting 33rd. A.J. has experience around the Daytona road course in an IMSA sports car, as he has participated in the Rolex 24 in the past. A.J. should have a solid shot to win on Saturday afternoon.
Chase Briscoe +600- Chase won the first road course race of the 2020 Xfinity season at Indy back in July. Briscoe finished 3rd at Road America last Saturday, and has been one of the best on the season at every track we have visited. Briscoe is currently 2nd in the point standings, and has 11 top 5 finishes on the 2020 season. Chase will begin the UNOH 188 on the outside of the front row in 2nd. I expect Chase, Cindric, and A.J. Allmendinger to fight these 52 laps to the end.
Noah Gragson +1100- Gragson finished 3rd at INDY back in July in an exciting finish. Noah finished 6th at Road America last Saturday, and on the season has 12 top 10 finishes through the 18 races in 2020. Gragson will begin the UNOH 188 from the 3rd starting spot, and I strongly believe this track position will be key on Saturday. I love Gragson’s ability to aggressively wheel the car each week, and that is a quality trait on road courses.
Andy Lally +3400- Lally is a road racing specialist, and has years of experience throughout the major NASCAR touring series. Lally will start the UNOH 188 from the 6th position, so right away he will have the advantage of not having to pass 25+ cars. Like Allmendinger, Lally has years of experience in sports cars, especially here at Daytona in the Rolex 24 race. Lally is a longshot to win Saturday, but he is worthy of a sprinkle for sure.
Jeff’s Pick A.J. Allmendinger +275
