The Nascar Cup Series heads to Kentucky Speedway Sunday afternoon for the Quaker State 400. Kentucky is a 1.5 cookie cutter intermediate oval, and we can compare Las Vegas, Kansas, and Chicagoland. Kentucky has some unique characteristics, and these include bumps that can easily upset the racecars. We found victory lane last week at Indy, and hopefully we can repeat once again at Kentucky Speedway on Sunday afternoon
Here are a 5 drivers to consider for Quaker State 400.
Kevin Harvick +550- Harvick is sizzling right now, has he won his 4th race of year last weekend at Indy. Harvick is listed as the outright favorite for the Quaker State 400 on Sunday, and rightfully so. Kevin has an average driver rating of 101.6 over the last 3 races at Kentucky. Harvick has an average 12th place finish over the last 3 races, with 1 top 5 and 1 top 10. Harvick will once again draw a top 12 starting spot for Sunday’s race at Kentucky, and is a solid choice for the win.
Martin Truex Jr. +700- Truex has slumped over the last month with the exception of a 6th place finish in the first Pocono race a few days ago. Luckily for Truex, we are going to be heading to a handful of 1.5 intermediate over the next few weeks. Truex has the 2nd best average driver rating over the last 3 races at Kentucky at 125.1. Truex has won 2 of the last 3 races at Kentucky Speedway, and I expect him to be in the conversation in the closing stage of the Quaker State 400.
Chase Elliott +750- Chase continues to have one of the fastest cars week in and week out. Chase has been in contention at every style of track we have visited so far this season and I expect this continue. Chase has 1 top 5 and 1 top 10 finish over the last 3 races at Kentucky. Elliott was off in the 2019 race at Kentucky, finishing in the 15th position. Chase and team have found better speed in 2020, as he won the 2nd race at Charlotte back in May. Chase should maintain top 10 on Sunday, and is one to consider for the Quaker State 400.
Kurt Busch+2500- Kurt is my dark horse pick to win on Sunday at Kentucky. Kurt won the 2019 Kentucky race, holding off his brother Kyle Busch for an exciting victory. Kurt led 41 laps on the way to victory in 2019, and also had 36 fastest laps. Over the last 3 races at Kentucky, Kurt has an average driver rating of 104.3, which is 3rd best among active drivers. Kurt is worth sprinkling in some action on here at Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400.
Erik Jones +4000- Jones is my long shot play for the Quaker State 400 on Sunday afternoon. Erik has torn up a couple racecars in the last couple of weeks, but I think his luck can change here at Kentucky Speedway. Jones finished 3rd in the 2019 race and finished 7 in the 2018 Kentucky race. Over the last 3 races here at Kentucky, Jones has an average finish of 5.33, and an average driver rating of 98.3. Jones has 4 top 5 finishes currently in the 2020 Cup season, and there is a good chance for him to win at Kentucky on Sunday afternoon.
