We head to Pocono Raceway Sunday with the Xfinity Series running of the Pocono Green 225. Pocono is one of the most interesting tracks on the circuit, as we have 3 different turns and 3 different straightaways to contend with. Sunday’s Xfinity Series race will be 90 laps, 225 miles, so relatively a short race. We should see a tremendous sense of urgency from all drivers at the drop of the green flag of the Pocono Green 225.
Here are a 5 drivers to consider for the Pocono Green 225.
Chase Briscoe +250- Chase has been on fire this season, even before we had to take a break for the pandemic. Briscoe finished 5th at Daytona back in February, and he won the Las Vegas race right after Daytona. Briscoe finished 3rd in the 2019 Pocono race, just behind Cole Custer and Tyler Reddick, both of which are in the Cup serie now. Chase continues to have a top 3 car week in and week out, and I expect him to be popular on Sunday.
Noah Gragson +600- Noah finished 6th here at the Pocono Raceway back last year in 2019. Gragson is another driver in top of the line equipment with JR Motorsports in 2020, and I expect to perform well on Sunday. Gragson will begin the Pocono Green 225 from the pole position, so he will have an advantage right from the start.
Ross Chastain +850- Chastain will be pulling double duty at the Pocono Raceway this coming weekend. Ross will compete in the Truck Series race on Saturday afternoon, and then will compete in the number 10 car in the Xfinity Series on Sunday. Chastain has a streak of 4 top 10 finishes going, dating back to the race at Atlanta back on June 6, 2020 in the Xfinity Series. Ross finished 14th in the 2019 Pocono race, but that was with a different team. Chastain is in a better racecar this year, and should contend for a win on Sunday.
Harrison Burton +900- Burton will begin the Pocono Green 225 from the 10th position on Sunday. Harrison has 2 wins on the 2020 season, and 7 top finishes. Burton’s Gibbs Toyota is no doubt one of the best cars out on track each week. Christopher Bell, who is now in the Cup Series, drove this same car last year to a 5th place finish at Pocono in 2019. Without a ton of value at Pocono on Sunday, Burton is an option I will be considering.
Daniel Hemric +1400- Hemric will begin the Pocono Green 225 from the 8th position. Hemric has 8 starts in the 2020 Xfinity Series, and in those races has 5 top 10 finishes. Hemric ran a complete season in 2019 for Richard Childress in the NASCAR Cup Series. Hemric is now teammates with Noah Gragson driving for JR Motorsports. Hemric is no doubt in a top 5 car, and is at a great value for the Pocono Green 225.
