We make our way to the Martinsville Speedway Wednesday evening for the Blue-Emu 500. Martinsville is a flat, half mile short track, and the smallest track on the NASCAR circuit. Martinsville Speedway creates exciting bumper to bumper, beating and banging racing that we all love to see. Our picks at Atlanta back on Sunday went 3 wins and 1 loss, for a total up of 1.68 unit. On the year we are up 3.12 units, so let’s keep going at Martinsville on Wednesday evening.
Here are a few matchups to consider for the Blue-Emu 500.
Kyle Busch -155 vs. Martin Truex Jr. +125
Kyle and Truex have split this match up 2 and 2 over the last 4 races at Martinsville. Kyle has been very good at Martinsville throughout his career, while Truex struggled up to the last 3 years or so. Truex has outperformed Kyle at Martinsville, winning the previous race here and has a 4th place average finish over the last 4 races compared to Kyle’s 5.75 finish. I will take a shot on Truex at +125 in a close match up with Kyle.
Jeff’s Pick: Martin Truex Jr. +125
Kurt Busch 100 vs. Jimmie Johnson -130
Kurt has won 4 of the last 4 matchups against Johnson at Martinsville. No doubt, Jimmie has been dominate at Martinsville in his career, but as of late Johnson doesn’t have a top 10 finish here in the last 4 races. Johnson will start from the 21st position, while Kurt will start 9th. Jimmie will have some work to do to make it to the top 10, and I just like Kurt better in this spot.
Jeff’s Pick: Kurt Busch 100
Martin Truex Jr. -120 vs. Chase Elliott -110
Truex has won this matchup 3 to 1 against Elliott in the last 4 Martinsville races. Elliott has been hit or miss at Martinsville in his short career, but to his credit has 3 top 10s in the last 4 races at Martinsville. Truex has a driver rating of 115.4 compared to Chase that has an average driver rating of 97.2. I feel the pricing is accurate on this matchup between Truex and Chase, but I will take Truex.
Jeff’s Pick: Martin Truex Jr. -120
Ryan Newman -115 vs. Matt Dibenedetto -115
Newman has won this matchup 3 to 1 against Matt over the last 4 races here at Martinsville. Matt was driving with lower funded teams up to the 2020 season, but now Matt is in great equipment with the Wood Brothers. Regardless of equipment, Matt has struggled at Martinsville. Newman has an average finish of 15th compared to Matt’s 26th place average finish. The matchup between Ryan and Matt will be close and fun to watch, but I feel as if Newman will prevail.
Jeff’s Pick: Ryan Newman -115
