We head back to Charlotte for the Alsco 500K on Wednesday night. The Alsco 500K is 500 kilometers not 500 miles. We will only race 208 laps, compared to the 400 laps raced back on Sunday night in the Coke 600. The race on Wednesday night will be intense from the drop of the green flag. Strategy for these race teams will play a huge part into the winner, as taking 2 tires instead of 4 worked out a few times back in the Coke 600. We almost had a victory in the Coke 600, and we need to get back on the victory train.
Here are a 5 drivers to consider for the Alsco 500.
Martin Truex Jr. +500- Martin is the outright favorite for the Alsco 500. Martin had 56 fastest laps in the Coke 600 back on Sunday, which was the most by any driver. Also, Martin was the only driver back on Sunday in the Coke 600 to run all of his laps in top 15. Truex will start 18th for the Alsco 500, so he will have a challenge ahead. I think with some strategy calls on pit road, the Truex team will be in position by the end of this short race.
Chase Elliott. +600- Chase will roll off from the 19th position on Wednesday night. For the second race in a row, Chase had misfortune bite him again. Chase has been arguably been the fastest car on the track this year, as every race he has been in the top 5 in green flag speed. Chase has one of the best pit crews in the garage area, and I feel as if they will help gain spots on pit road.
Alex Bowman + 900- Bowman will start in the 2nd position for the Alsco 500. Alex led 164 laps in Sunday’s Coke 600, which was the most by any driver. Bowman also had the best quality pass percentage of any driver back on Sunday at 90.4. No doubt Bowman has been very fast this year, especially here of late. There is a good chance Alex can take the lead early and not look back.
Joey Logano +900- Logano will start 8th on Wednesday night. Logano ran top 10 pretty much all night except that run to the checkers in the Coke 600. Joey appears to be hit and miss on intermediate tracks, but I looked into this in more detail. Joey struggled at California and Darlington 1 this year, but was top 3 at Vegas in green flag speed. The shorter distance in this race fits Logano’s aggressive style.
Ryan Blaney +1600- Ryan is my longshot play for the Alsco 500, and will start from the 18th position. Ryan had an awesome long run car in Coke 600 back on Sunday, but I do want to see some short run speed for the Alsco 500. Blaney finished 4th in the Coke 600 on Sunday and had a driver rating of 99.4. I will put a little bit of action in on Ryan Blaney on Wednesday night.
