We make our way to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the longest race of the year, the Coke 600. Sunday night’s race is one of attrition, where man and equipment must hold up. I will be referencing the 2 previous Coke 600s, the 2020 Las Vegas race, and the first race from Darlington last Sunday. We split the previous race 2 and 2 for a -.33 unit loss, but we are still up 2 units on the year with a record of 12-8,
Here are a few matchups to consider for the Coca Cola 600 on Sunday.
Denny Hamlin -106 vs. Chase Elliott. -125
Denny has gone 4-0 vs Chase in the races I listed above. Denny struggled at Vegas this year, but still beat Chase after a late race incident. Chase and Denny are neck and neck in average driver rating over the last 2 Coke 600s, and I am surprised this match up wasn’t priced -115 to -115. I like Denny to edge out Chase on Sunday evening.
Jeff’s Pick: Denny Hamlin -106
Alex Bowman-115 vs. Jimmie Johnson -115
Bowman has gone 3-1 against Jimmie in the 4 races I mentioned above. Bowman slightly has the better car this year compared to Jimmie, but it is very slight. Bowman had an average driver rating of 105.9 in the last 6, compared to Jimmie that has an average of 89.9 in the same time span. Bowman also has better green flag speed this year compared to Jimmie on steep tracks like Charlotte.
Jeff’s Pick: Alex Bowman- 115
Joey Logano -115 vs. Chase Elliott-115
Chase has won 3 of the last 4 races against Joey in the races mentioned above. Joey won the Las Vegas race back in February, but Chase has finished ahead of Joey more times than not here recently. There would be no better response from Chase wrecking last week if he were to win the Coke 600. Joey has been hit or miss over the last few Coke 600s, and feel that Chase will win this match up.
Jeff’s Pick: Chase Elliott-115
Ryan Blaney -121 vs. Jimmie Johnson -108
Jimmie and Ryan have spilt match ups 2 to 2 over the 4 races I mentioned in the opening. Ryan has been a great on short runs this year, but his long run speed hasn’t been the best. The 2020 Coke 600 will be Jimmie Johnson’s last, so you can bet he will have a car in contention on Sunday. Jimmie has traditionally ran great in the Coke 600 over the years. I was impressed with what I saw with Jimmie last week at Darlington, and I think he will finish ahead of Ryan.
Jeff’s Pick: Jimmie Johnson -108
