We continue the NASCAR Cup schedule on Wednesday night with the Toyota 500k at Darlington. Wednesday night’s race will be 65 laps less than the first Darlington race back on Sunday. I expect the Wednesday night race to be more intense than the first race we saw last Sunday. We won 3 of our 4 matchups back on Sunday for a gain of 1.49 units, and we are up 2.37 units for the year.
Here are a few matchups to consider for the Darlington 400 on Sunday.
Denny Hamlin -125 vs. Martin Truex Jr. -106
Denny has won 2 of the 3 match ups verse Truex at Darlington. Truex struggled in the first stage back on Sunday at Darlington, but the team made the correct adjustments. Truex finished one spot behind Denny back on Sunday. I like Denny over Truex for the Toyota 500k because I feel Denny will be more aggressive.
Jeff’s Pick: Denny Hamlin -125
William Byron-112 vs. Jimmie Johnson -118
Byron has won 2 of 3 against Jimmie Johnson here at Darlington. I wish we could have seen more out of Byron and Johnson back on Sunday, but both wrecked out. Byron has had the faster car over Jimmie in the last 3 races, based on green flag speed. I am going to give the nod to William Byron over Jimmie Johnson at the slightly better price.
Jeff’s Pick: William Byron- 112
Cole Custer -125 vs. Christopher Bell -106
There are no Cup Series match ups of Custer vs. Bell, except for last Sunday. I did go back and look at the Xfinity Series match ups. Custer finished ahead of Bell in the last 3 Xfinity races at Darlington. In fact, Custer won the Darlington Xfinity race last year. Bell and his team have struggled, and I think Custer is in better equipment. I look for Custer to finish ahead of Bell on Wednesday night.
Jeff’s Pick: Cole Custer -125
Ryan Preece -115 vs. Ty Dillon -115
Ty has won this match up 2 times over Preece at Darlington. Preece showed great speed on Sunday, but had a handling issue towards the end of the race. Ty and Preece had very similar numbers back in the Sunday race. Ty has had better green flag speed this year over Preece, and I am giving the nod to Ty Dillon in this match up.
Jeff’s Pick: Ty Dillon -115
