Mohammed Usman and Zac Pauga face off on Saturday to win the heavyweight title in the Ultimate Fighter at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Zac Pauga got a bit of a late start into the UFC game, but don’t let that fool you, he is a fighter who could be a problem in the heavyweight division. Zac Pauga comes into this fight with a 5-0 record and he didn’t turn pro until 2020. Pauga was a part of the LFA and Cage Warriors before joining the ultimate fighter. In the first fight, he was able to beat Nyle Bartling by unanimous decision. In the last fight against Jordan Heiderman early in the second round he was able to win by knockout. Pauga is at Elevate Fight team, and his camp has seemed to really help him heading into this fight.
On the other side of this fight is Mohammed Usman who sits wtih a 7-2 record and he has a little more pro experience. Usman was fighting in Titan FC and the PFL before joining the ultimate fighter. Against Brandon Sayles in 2021 he lost by a rear naked choke. In the Ultimate Fighter, he beat Mitchell Sipe in the first fight and beat Eduardo Perez by split decision. Some feel he was lucky to even have a spot in this fight after that split decision win.
Usman has elite knockout power, but he doesn’t throw a ton of strikes, and his lack of throwing is going to be the difference. Pauga is a good defensive fighter, and he is going to find success avoiding the big strikes by Usman. This fight is going to go the distance and Pauga will secure the victory. Back Pauga by decision.
