Su Mudaerji and Matt Schnell face off on Saturday afternoon in a flyweight showdown in the main card of UFC on ABC 3 at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Mudaerji is currently ranked 12th in the division while Schnell is ranked 8th.
Su Mudaerji comes into this fight with a 16-4 record overall and he has won three fights in a row. Mudaerji’s last fight came against Zarrukh Adashev in January of 2021 and he won by unanimous decision. He outstruck his opponent 50-28 and that was enough to win by unanimous decision. Two fights ago against Malcolm Gordon, he won by knockout 44 seconds into the fight. He is averaging 4.49 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.19 significant strikes per minute. He is averaging 0.40 takedowns every 15 minutes but he is successful on 100 percent of his attempts. He also stops 77 percent of his opponent's takedown attempts.
On the other side of this matchup is Matt Schnell who sits with a 15-6 record overall but he has been a bit less consistent as of late. Two fights ago it was declared a no contest against Rogerio Bontorin. In his last fight against Brandon Royval it was in the first round he was put in a bad spot, and lost by guillotine choke. Schnell is averaging 4.26 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.23 significant strikes per minute. Schnell is averaging 0.38 takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 33 percent of his takedown attempts. He also stops 50 percent of his takedown attempts. He is also averaging 0.9 submission attempts every 15 minutes.
Su Mudaerji is the better striker in this fight, and he is going to show that early and often in this one. Schnell does throw a ton of significant strikes, but he is more of a volume guy, and not a guy who has a ton of one-punch knockout power. Mudaerji does have that, and he is going to show it off early. Back Mudaerji to win by knockout.
