Lauren Murphy and Miesha Tate face off on Saturday afternoon in a women’s flyweight showdown in the main card of UFC on ABC 3 at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Murphy is currently 3rd in the division while Tate is ranked 10th. This fight was supposed to happen on July 2nd but was postponed.
Lauren “Lucky” Murphy comes into this fight with a 15-5 record overall and she had won five fights in a row before losing the last one. Murphy’s last fight came against Valentina Shevchenko in September of 2021 and she was dominated for the entire fight late in the 4th round she lost by knockout. Murphy’s last win came against Joanne Wood in June of 2021 and she won that fight by split decision. She was actually outstruck 123-80 but still won by decision. Murphy is averaging 3.58 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.35 significant strikes per minute. Murphy is averaging 1.03 takedowns every 15 minutes but she is only successful on 34 percent on her takedown attempts. She also stops 65 percent of his takedown attempts.
On the other side of this matchup is Miesha “Cupcake” Tate comes into this fight with a 19-8 record overall but she has lost three of her last four fights. Since the long layoff, Tate has gone 1-1. Miesha Tate beat Marion Reneau in July of 2021 by knockout. In the last fight, Tate outstruck Ketlen Vieira 122-113, but she lost by unanimous decision. Tate is averaging 2.41 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.87 significant strikes per minute. Tate is averaging 1.99 takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 31 percent of her takedown attempts. She also stops 51 percent of her takedown attempts.
Tate has moved to the flyweight division and this is really her last shot at a title. Tate might not get the title in a few fights, but she is going to get the job done here. Tate is the better all-around fighter, and Murphy isn’t going to have an answer for her striking. I don’t think Tate gets the finish, but she is going to secure the win. Back Tate to win by decision.
