UFC on ESPN 39: Caio Borralho vs. Armen Petrosyan Picks and Predictions
Caio Borralho and Armen Petrosyan face off on Saturday in a middleweight bout at UFC on ESPN 39 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Caio “The Natural” Borralho comes into this fight with an 11-1 record overall and since coming into the UFC he has won three fights in a row. Borralho’s last fight came against Gadzhi Omargadzhiev in April of 2022 and he was able to win that fight by unanimous decision. Borralho outstruck his opponent 31-12 and that was enough for the victory. The other two wins were a part of the Dana White Contender Series. Borralho is averaging 3.66 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 1.70 significant strikes per minute. He is also averaging 1.96 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and he is successful on 80 percent of his takedown attempts. He also stops 75 percent of his opponent's takedown attempts.
On the other side of this matchup is Armen Petrosyan who sits with a 7-1 record and he has won two fights inside the UFC. In his first fight in Dana White’s Contender Series, he was able to win by knockout. Petrosyan last fight came in February of 2022 against Gregory Rodrigues and he won that fight by split decision. He outstruck his opponent 127-61 but he was taken down twice. Petrosyan is averaging 7.56 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.39 significant strikes per minute. He wants to keep the fight on the feet but he is only stopping 37 percent of his takedown attempts.
These two fighters are pretty similar in terms of striking, but the big advantage in this one goes to Borralho with his wrestling. Borralho is averaging 1.96 successful takedowns every 15 minutes, and when he wants to get the fight to the ground, he gets it there. Borralho is going to use his striking on the feet, and then once he gets the fight to the feet he is going to dominate too.
