Arman Tsarukyan and Mateusz Gamrot face off on Saturday in a lightweight showdown at the main event of UFC on ESPN 38 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Arman Tsarukyan comes into this fight with an 18-2 record overall and he has won four fights in a row. After losing his first fight in the UFC, he has looked quite impressive. Tsarukyan’s last fight came against Joel Alvarez in February of 2022 and he looked dominant in that fight. He outstruck Alvarez 36-7 and early in the second round he finished the fight by knockout. Tsarukyan is averaging 3.75 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 1.36 significant strikes per minute. Tsarukyan is successful on 37 percent of his takedown attempts and stops 78 percent of his takedown attempts.
Mateusz Gamrot comes into this fight with a 20-1 record overall and he has won three fights in a row. Gamot’s last fight came against Diego Ferreira in December of 2021 and he was outstruck 36-25, but midway through the second round, he finished the fight by knockout. Each of the last three wins by finish. Gamrot is averaging 3.79 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.69 significant strikes per minute. Gamrot wants to get the fight to the ground and he is averaging 5.83 takedowns every 15 minutes. He is successful on 40 percent of her takedown attempts and stops 100 percent of his opponents takedown attempts.
Gamrot is a great wrestler, but he is going to have some major issues against Tsarukyan in this game. Tsarukyan is an elite striker and he is also strong when the fight gets to the ground. I expect his power is going to be too much and Gamrot is going to be worn down here. Back Tsarukyan to win by knockout. This is one of my favorite plays on the entire board.
