Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk face off on the main card in a women’s strawweight bout at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Zhang Weili comes into this fight with a 21-3 record overall but she has lost two fights in a row, both against Rose Namajunas. Her last win was all the way back in 2020 and that was a split decision over Jedrzejczyk. She was outstruck 186-165 in that fight, and but still did enough to secure the win. Weili is averaging 5.47 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 4.13 significant strikes per minute. She is averaging 1.75 takedowns every 15 minutes and is successful on 31 percent of her takedown attempts. She also stops 60 percent of her opponent's takedown attempts.
On the other side of this matchup is Joanna Jedrzejczyk who sits with a 16-4 record overall but over her last six fights she only has two wins. Jedrejczyk’s last fight was back in 2020 against Zhang Weili. Two fights ago against Michelle Waterson in October of 2019 she looked dominant. She outstruck Waterson 180-58 and that led to the unanimous decision loss. Jedrzejczyk is averaging 6.30 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.08 significant strikes per minute He is averaging 0.28 successful takedowns every 15 minutes and she is successful on 62 percent of her takedown attempts. She also stops 81 percent of her opponent's takedown attempts.
I really feel like this would be a true toss-up if both fighters were active heading into this fight, but the layoff for Jedrzejczyk is a big concern for me. I think Jedrzjczyk is going to come out a step slow in this fight, and that is going to be the difference as Weili is going to win this fight again. Back Weili to win this by decision.
