Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka face off in the main event in the light heavyweight title bout at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. Teixeira is currently the champion while Prochazka is ranked second in the division.
Glover Teixeira comes into this fight with a 33-7 record overall and he has won six fights in a row. Teixeria’s last fight came against Jan Blachowicz in October of 2021 and in the second round of that fight, he looked in a rear-naked choke and secured the victory. Each of his last two wins have been by rear-naked choke. Teixeria is averaging 3.72 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 3.83 significant strikes per minute. He often wants to get the fight to the ground and is averaging 2.11 takedowns every 15 minutes. He is successful on 39 percent of his takedown attempts and he stops 60 percent of his opponent's takedown attempts. As of late he has really tried to work on the submission too and is averaging 1.1 submission attempts every 15 minutes.
On the other side of this matchup is Jiri Prochazka who has only had two fights in the UFC, but he already has his title shot. Prochazka sits with a 28-3-1 record and he has back-to-back wins since coming into the UFC against Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes. In that last fight against Reyes in May of 2021, it was a spinning elbow late in the second round, that finished the fight. Prochazka is a volume puncher and is averaging 7.19 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 6.80 significant strikes per minute. He is averaging 0.98 takedowns every 15 minutes and is successful on 100 percent of his takedown attempts. He also stops 50 percent of opponent's takedown attempts.
There is no doubt that Teixeria is going to want to try and get the fight to the ground, and if he can control the wrestling, that will go a long way in winning this fight. I don’t think he is going to find success getting this to the ground though. Teixeria is getting up there in age, and he isn’t going to be able to take the pressure from Prochazka. Look for Prochazka to rock Teixeria here, and finish the fight. Back Prochazka by knockout.
